This is getting quite a bit of buzz on the web. King is quite testy these days, isn't he?

I don't see the issue other than King assuming that Peca is presenting himself as a journalist - clearly he's not and he's not on that panel to be one; IMO, he's on the panel as a former player who can bring insights on the game and the current players... It's an opinion, one that he's paid to give, and one that has some face validity since he's actually played the game against JBo. If JBo disagrees, that's his opinion, and he can prove it on the ice.

It sounds like King isn't so much defending JBo, so much as defending the decision to sign him for those dollars.

It's also perfectly plausible that Peca's insights are completely biased as to how Bouwmeester played as a teenager in the NHL. Peca played for the Islanders from 2002-04, for JayBo's first two NHL seasons. He probably WAS a turnover machine back then.

Then Peca played for Edmonton in 05-06, 35 games for Toronto in 06-07, and in Columbus for 2007-09. He would have played, what, maybe 4 or 5 times against Florida in those 4 years? If he was excited to play against him, he may have been basing it off the first 2 years, when he played against him 6 times, rather than the once a year scenario he had post-lockout.

While his insight is interesting, I think there are plenty of reasons to think it's a bit skewed.

Anyways, Ken King took the wrong approach with this one. I hope Peca continues to give frank analyses like that in the future... hopefully ex-players aren't discouraged from doing the same.

Frankly I fail to see how king is qualified to judge the relevance of a someone critiquing what someone else does.

But then again I am not qualified to judge if someone is qualified to judge the relevance of a someone critiquing what someone else does.

This is a wise statement.
