Sabres and their new players (Moore anyways) will take on the Habs and their boring, same ol' lineup.

I had a chance to listen to McGuire on the radio - he is gravely worried about the Habs' commitment to winning a Cup right now. He thinks some within the organization might be content to merely make the playoffs this season. Gainey danced around questions about upcoming UFAs and Jokinen, and it sounded like Gainey just wasn't into talking about the team right now. Seems like he'll watch the team in the playoffs and then decide this offseason who stays and who goes. That doesn't bode well for this stretch run.

On the Sabres side, they added Moore and Tellqvist and lost Kotalik. Not sure how that stacks but Kotalik was making quite a bit of money. And for shits and giggles, the Kalinin era failed on Broadway.

For Sask, your home province's economic growth made the headlines on CNN.

Habs are dominating the first, but they haven't been able to score and the Sabres killed 3 consecutive penalties.

Now the Buffs are on the PP.

Fucking fuck.

The fall of Komisarek, Gorges and Hamrlik is perhaps the most disappointing part of this whole team collapse.

They are the Bermuda triangle of suckage this year...

Hammer - hurt
Komi - hurt - probably still hurt
Gorges - too small and played too much

Yep. It's too bad Komi's suckage won't factor into his negotiations at all. I guess his asking price isn't going through the roof, but he'll still get a ridiculous contract and we'll have to accomodate it.

The PP in the first went back to pre-Schneider ineffectiveness... no point shots getting through, slow passing, and constantly looking for the home run play. I knew we were going to lose from those PP's...

I agree. This is a team with a 4 game win streak off a very long suck streak. They have a very fragile confidence. If Kovy scored in the first, we'd be winning right now.

Jesus Murphy Jean-Guy Joseph en estie.

Komisarek-Hamrlik-Gorges-Breezer is a humongous black hole. Something must be done:

Markov-Hamrlik
Schneider-O'Byrne
Dandenault-Komisarek

Gorges and Breezer sit out against Atlanta.

The offence is brutal, no doubt about it (the PP tonight was depressing), but if the defence can't keep Paul Gaustad from parking in front of the net, then its time to find some new bodies.

Price got clonked in the first period, and no one stuck up for him. That bites as well.

What are we going to do? The time to act is over, so any moves we have to make will be from within. Time for Carbo to make lines in practice and stick with them, even though every recent combination has floundered.

Yep. Unfortunately, our defensive shortcomings are fundamentally based. Every team in the fucking league gains our blueline with lots of speed... our guys are always backing off, and they seem absolutely flabbergasted with the speed other teams execute as a result. It didn't used to be this easy (although we've never been a defensive stalwart), but man... and it's not like we're even a good forechecking team, either.

Don't worry, though. We're second in the league in blocked shots! Cause that says so much about our defense... namely that they never have the freaking puck.

Thank you...I always hated the fact the Avs were the same way, call it the Karlis Skrastins system. Never attack, never win battles in the corners, just sit back and let them ricochet the puck off your jockstrap at will.

They showed the leaders in that stat during that awesome Colorado/Islanders game, pointing out that those two teams were two of the top 5 in the category. The other 3? The Habs, Oilers, and Leafs. Yeah, that says a ton about the importance of the stat right there.

Is it just me, or is the prospect of locking up Mike Komisarek at 5M per looking more unattractive by the day?

Edit: BTW, one of the biggest proponents for creating rules to prevent fully body shot blocking? Bob Freakin' Gainey.

It is looking less attractive, but we know that Mike CAN play against the top lines at least when paired with a slick partner. I definitely am a bigger proponent of moving Hamrlik and keeping Komi while finding a new guy for the top pairing.

Anyways, this is the Buffalo forum, so let's not spread our rebuild out of the 4 or 5 threads we have going in the Habs forum!

Shot blocking is definitely the most overrated "skill" in the NHL.
