Isn't it twice now he's been screwed over by this organization? Yeesh. You knew it was coming, but yeesh.

How pissed are the fans gonna be if this full-bore tank job doesn't pan out?

Nolan knew what he was signing on for this time around, so I wouldn't call it getting screwed over exactly.

And yeah, the recovery from these past two years will be interesting to say the least. How quickly can one get a modern NHL level team?

No McDavid. No Babcock.

Some rotten luck for the Sabres so far this offseason.

Eichel and Bylsma are pretty damn good consolations if that's how it goes.

That is indeed how it will go: Bylsma named BUF coach http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/dan ... -1.3091213

Pens get a third-rounder in 2016 as compensation.

I still don't understand how the Pens get a pick for someone hiring a guy they fired. I assume he was still under contract with them, but they fired him. Yes, I'm too lazy to look this all up.

Yup, exactly. If the team still has him under contract then they have the right to demand compensation. Last time I remember this happening was when Pierre Lacroix snagged a pick from Brian Burke and the Canucks for the rights to Marc Crawford.

Incidentally, that pick ended up being Charlie Stephens in the 1999 draft (yes, same draft the Canucks acquired the Sedins), who would go on to play a grand total of 8 games for the Avalanche, and the NHL period as far as I know.

Might the Sabres buyout Cody Hodgson? He has four years left on his deal at 4.25M per. His skating is not up to snuff.

It's pretty funny how wrong all of Nucks fans were about Hodgson. Pretty sure my forecast at the time was certain 3rd line center, highly probable 2nd line center and upside of 1st line center 60-70 point guy.

Still better than the guy that quite a few Nucks fans seemed to want over Hodgson, Kyle Beach

Hodgson is 15th in total points out of that draft. There are guys that will pass him, and probably defensemen who will be better players but without the point totals, but it's not a egregiously bad pick. He's also out-produced than more than half of the non-goalie players taken #10 overall in raw points already. Might not have met expectations, but not a terrible selection.

He was a worthwhile pick but in his 2nd season with the Nucks at the time of the trade we were expecting continued development and projecting him higher but he's basically just plateaued at what he was at 21.

Tim Murray says he would've thought someone was on mushrooms if they told him he'd get Eichel, Kane and Lehner for his three first-rounders.

O'Reilly and Eichel. That ain't a bad center corps.

Oh and that Latvian guy they rapped about is still in the fold. And so is Reinhart.

Frustrated no more! The Ryan O'Reilly haul was quantity over quality.

The Sabres look pretty good after yesterday.

Kane - O'Reilly - Girgensons
Ennis - Eichel - Gionta
Foligno - Legwand - Moulson
McGinn - O'Reilly - McCormick
Deslauriers

Bogosian - Gorges
Ristolainen - Weber
Pysyk - Donovan
Colaiacovo

Lehner
Johnson

Well, a long ways from contender still, but certainly no longer tank-worthy.

Uh, où est Reinhart?

The D is worse than Colorado's last year with a less sure thing in goal, so not sure they're out of a bad situation yet. Wingers looking good and a good top C now, though.

Aw shit...forgot about him. :nar:

And I'm not sure there can be a D worse than Colorado's last year. Good thing I don't have to watch THAT for 82 games.

Avs should trade Guenin to whomever wants to tank harder.
