Oh yes, bonus overages are definitely a thing, though this is the largest one I think I've ever seen.

Doesn't matter a ton though, the Bruins were likely downsizing after this season anyway. They know this is it, and they acted accordingly and beefed up exceedingly well. That likely played a part because you can accrue cap space over the course of the season. and possibly avoid bonus overages IF you're cap compliant. But if you have to dip into LTIR space, which the B's did (so did virtually everyone else, including the Avs) and there's no cap space to accrue.

The Flyers being over is pretty amusing considering the season they had.

They pretty much live on LTIR, I think they have since the beginning of the cap era.
