After a solid season where a few youngsters took steps forward and some of the older guys took steps back, the B's had a sorta strange offseason where they added depth in places I didn't expect.

Did they really need Moore for five years to play on a bottom pairing? Did Wagner and Nordstrom really need two-year deals? Halak too rich for a backup?

The B's are so confusing. They make so many bad moves but that core is so talented I guess it doesn't matter.

They're so good at rearing young players, which makes the Moore signing weird because I feel like Vaakanainen and Zboril are close, and maybe even Lauzon. Not to mention Grzelcyk earning a nice bridge deal. And they need to pay McAvoy and Carlo on the right side next season.

Sweeney's explanation in the Providence Journal:

Quote:
Sweeney’s explanation for that deal was loaded with logic: He cited the number of injuries sustained by Bruins’ blue-liners before and during the last two post-seasons, and added that a veteran like Moore (447 NHL games with the Blue Jackets, Rangers and most recently Devils) lets young defensemen like Jakub Zboril, Jeremy Lauzon and incoming rookie candidate Urho Vaakanainen continue to develop at their own pace, without being rushed. Moore also kills penalties -- something not currently on the resumes of current blue-liners McAvoy, Torey Krug or Matt Grzelcyk.

Adam McQuaid dealt to the Rangers for Steve Kampfer. Chance to save a couple of bucks.

Now we're in-season, and last year's wunderkind Ryan Donato has been sent down to Providence. Making the NHL is freaking hard.

Is David Krejci, like, still good at this point, or is he just kinda hanging on until the expiration of his deal?
