SYNOPSIS:
After an offseason of necessary movement the B’s have settled into the middle of the pack. They are currently on the bubble holding down the 8th spot in the East and the 5th spot in a competitive Atlantic division. The aging core is still intact and the Bruins are in the beginning of a transitionary period so expectations need to be adjusted. The Bruins are exactly what they are right now in the standings….a bubble team.

PLUS:

Patrice Bergeron Wow! Every year I think that Patrice can’t get any better he does it. IMO the best 2-way player in the game and the most underhyped player today. Patrice does everything he’s asked to in every facet of the game. Patrice isn’t dynamic or flashy but he doesn’t have to be.

Brad Marchand….I never thought I would type those words. He’s been on my shit list for years now. Always streaky but early on this year he was taking over games. He’s since come back down to earth and doesn’t really look to outperform his usual 40-50 points. It was nice seeing that he actually gave a shit early on though. I still want to see him traded.

Loui Eriksson… He’s no Seguin. But he was never supposed to be. Quietly putting up numbers that we expected when he was traded for.

Torey Krug… Personally a big fan of his. He’s what the B’s were missing when the Habs used to race by them. His D game is coming together as well and he's eased the loss of Hamilton. Unfortunately his piece was added just a bit too late. He and the B’s are going in opposite directions.

Zdeno Chara… How does he do it? I thought this year was going to be especially tough for him. Big Z is in very good shape and it shows on the ice. He’s delaying his transition to pylon very well and he leads the team D in points and P/M.

Tuukka Rask… Without Tuuka this team is at least 2 spots lower. Not the biggest fan of his fat contract but he does just enough to win games and this year he’s shown a bit more big save ability.

Claude Julien… This poor bastard is in the cross hairs and he knows it. Even so he is still preaching the layer system and getting a new cast of characters to buy into it. Props to Claude for soldiering on as the brass will get their pound of flesh eventually.

MINUS:

Don Sweeney….Yikes! Its been a rough ride for Sweeney so far. Hope that 1st rounder in 2016 pays off because as soon as the core is done this team is in trouble.

Matt Beleskey and Jimmy Hayes….On the fence on this one. Both look to be on track to have the best seasons of their careers but they are also getting paid quite handsomely. Perhaps 4 mill for 40 points is the new norm. ……I suppose its better than paying 6.5 for meathead! Jimmy Hayes has been much better lately so maybe this will change by years end.

David Krejci……Singlehandedly reminded us when he’s on he’s great (PPG pace) but unfortunately he’s 50/50 to ever play more than 40 games. For 7 Mill that’s hard to take.

OUTLOOK:
Savor the production value of Ryan Spooner this year (30 pts for $800K) and take solace in the fact he only makes 1.1 next year. Based on experience this team could back into the playoffs and make some noise before petering out in the Semis. Depends on the health of Krejci and the big save ability of Rask. Enjoy the ride because as soon as this aging core stops holding up the B's world dark days will be ahead.

Well that will about do it for the season. a 6-2 shellacking (after 2 periods mind you) to the Hawks when you are trying to get in to the dance is downright ugly.

Get that Golf game ready!

Ended it 6-4, showing some life, but not enough. Quite a few teams in the lower half of the East are looking awful: Isles, Rangers, Boston, Detroit. Tampa may be in trouble without Stamkos too.

Wings and B's are both tanking but one will automatically get third in the division. The Flyers might get that wild card spot, though.

3rd place in the Atlantic will likely come down to the winner of the Boston v. Detroit game on April 7, in Boston.

WTF is this team doing? Looks like you are right RW. Tomorrow should decide it.

Well that game vs Detroit was certainly interesting. Pushed the Flyers out of East-8th.

yeah but it goes like this....

Quote:
They can start by defeating the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. But if the Flyers win Saturday (hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins) and Sunday (visiting the New York Islanders), and the Red Wings defeat the New York Rangers in regulation or overtime Saturday, the Bruins won't make the playoffs.

I certainly don't feel bad for the B's if they miss.

Quote:
— Bruins win in any fashion, Red Wings lose or win in a shootout. In this scenario, the Bruins would finish third in the Atlantic Division and play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round regardless of how the Flyers fare.

— Bruins win in any fashion, Red Wings win in regulation or overtime, Flyers lose either one of their remaining games in any fashion. In this scenario, the Bruins would earn the second wild-card spot and play the Washington Capitals in the first round.

— Bruins lose in overtime/shootout, Red Wings lose in regulation. In this scenario, the Bruins would finish third in the Atlantic Division and play the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round regardless of how the Flyers fare.

— Bruins lose in overtime/shootout, Red Wings win or lose in overtime/shootout, Flyers earn two or fewer points from their final two games (one regulation loss or two overtime losses). In this scenario, the Bruins would earn the second wild-card spot and play the Washington Capitals in the first round.

— Bruins lose in regulation, Flyers earn one or zero points from their final two games (two regulation losses or one regulation loss and one overtime loss). In this scenario, the Bruins would earn the second wild-card spot and play the Washington Capitals in the first round regardless of how the Red Wings fare.

I'll be at the Isles game Sunday, so I'm hoping for an Isles win. Although if the Isles end up with WC1, I hope the Bruins don't make it. They seem like if they make the playoffs they're going to make up for lost respect. I could also see the Flyers shocking the world and taking out the Caps though.
