On the ice for next year probably

In:

Matt Beleskey 5 years at 3.8 Mil
Jimmy Hayes (Still an RFA)
Zac Rinaldo .875

Out:
Lucic and his albatross 6.5 contract minus 2.75
Reilly Smith and his 3.5 Chiarelli gift
Savard the gift that keeps on giving .575
Dougie Hamilton money irrelevant now
Martin Jones....but he didn't really qualify as an IN anyway

didn't bother to include the picks because I don't believe any of them will play this upcoming year.

I have to be honest I feel much better today then I did a few days ago for the B's. Essentially they lost their next franchise D man in Hamilton and while that in itself is terrible (especially when resigning McQuaid) I don't have any other option than trust Sweeney and Neely.

The Beleskey signing and the trade for a strapping lad like Hayes helps. It could possibly even out the the loss of Smith and Lucic and save money at the same time. Its certainly better than it was before yesterday.

Amazingly a D Corps that once had an abundance of riches is now suprisingly thin. I can't say as I follow Providence enough to know who is ready to step in but I guess we'll figure that out in camp.

Its down graded from a train wreck to a high speed auto collision.

Interesting article with quotes from Hal Gill about what it's like to be a big man in Boston. The article is about Jimmy Hayes, and what some fans might expect from a man his size (i.e. dominating opposition with his fists), and what it's like to be a guy that size who doesn't have that in their game in Boston.

Gill comparing how he was received in Boston and Montreal is quite interesting. As are his comments about how he took criticism in Boston (his home team) vs anywhere else he played.

You'd think by now that people would see PIMs for what they are but nope. Still a positive stat category in Fantasy Hockey! Physical, big and tough hockey does not equal PIMs.

Quote:
A great deal of toughness is required to excel there as Hayes does, redirecting pucks thrown in front from the corners or beating defenders to loose pucks off rebounds.

So I'm told Sweeney said on local radio that Beleskey/Hayes goal totals were equal to Hamilton/Lucic/Smith last season. That's a nice rationalization.

Some people are saying Sweeney is nothing more than a yes-man to Neely, largely how Giguere and Sherman were perceived in Colorado as lackeys to the Lacroixs.

All three B's first-rounders failed the conditioning test. Not a huge deal, but makes for a funny headline.

Boy, that Seidenberg. Not too sturdy.

For others who were also wondering why this was about Voynov. Further down:

Quote:
Boston’s thin blue line suddenly looks a whole lot thinner.

The Bruins announced on Wednesday that veteran Dennis Seidenberg will undergo a surgical procedure to repair a lumbar spine disc herniation. He’ll be out of action for approximately eight weeks as a result.

The 34-year-old blueliner lost half of the 2013-14 campaign after undergoing knee surgery, but played in all 82 games last season.

The headline was initially misleading to me, until I saw the semicolon I thought SI was mistaking Voynov for a Bruin.

Total 8 of the #Bruins 14 forwards are 6'-0" or smaller.

Big bad Bruins no more?
