Very interesting deal. 1 year, $1.8 mil base with $4.2 mil in bonuses but they don't apply until 2014-15 season. Is this a new creative run around the cap? Not sure I've seen it done before at least not this obvious, but suspect we'll see more.

Have not seen how difficult the bonuses are too hit but the term is great, if the bonuses are not to easy like 5 goals and 20 games played = $4.2 mil then this is a really good deal for Boston. Think Iggy will be a much better fit here, he's slowing down so the Bruins system will work better for him. And 1 year allows him a shot at the cup then a chance to return to Calgary for one more year for a retirement tour.

Performance bonuses and the possibility of deferrals have been something that's always been there for ELC and 35+. I believe the ELC ones are standardized. Basically, you can exceed the cap by the bonus amount and it will be applied the following season. During the years where the CBA could expire(opt-opt year or actual expiring year), though, the bonuses counted against the current season's cap and could not be deferred.
