Last year's leading playoff scorer locked up for 3 years and now the highest paid forward on the Bruins.

He's had a pretty brutal start to the year with only 13 points but might be turning that around after a big night last night. Seems needing a new contract would be a big incentive but maybe it was a distraction.

Full disclosure: I thought he was going to explode this year and have him in 2 different pool leagues.

Oh, I don't think he'd ever be a good fantasy hockey pickup...then again I'm nearly dead last in the OTP $ league, so what do I know!?

Puck Daddy thinks it's a bad overpayment. For a team continually struggling for cap room, yeah, this does seem like more than necessary, but nothing egregious. He's the team's top center, so it probably makes sense he should be one of the team's highest-paid.

Given this and Peverley's recent extension, I'm guessing Chris Kelly will be gone at season's end. Given his numbers so far, he'll probably snag something decent on the open market.

He's definitely turning the corner, seeing as he only had 1 point after the first 10 games

I'd love to see what the lines are. Apart from Looch/Krejci/Horton I have no earthly idea what Julien does for a lineup. Is the 2nd line Marchand/Seguin/Bergeron? Where does Peverley go?

3rd line is Pouliot-Kelly-Peverley. You had the 2nd line right.

Basically, Seguin is in Recchi's spot and Pouliot is in Ryder's from the playoffs last year.

Hmmmm. I think this is a slight overpayment. I like the guy but over 5 mil a year is a bit steep. I was thinking more 3.5-4.

It does seem a bit steep, though he was earning 4 mil this season so it's not a huge raise

someone pointed out that they had to pay more because they're buying years when he could be an UFA in his prime

the overpayment seems to be Chiarelli's thing, evidenced by deals to Lucic, Chara, and Peverly
