Hi everyone,

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but as you know our membership numbers aren't what they used to be, and if we want to keep the site running, someone's going to have to pay for it. Chuck has very kindly hosted the site for a few years now, and I believe different people have chipped in to keep the domain name, but unfortunately if we'd like the site to continue, we're going to have to ask for contributions.

After discussing with Chuck, we have decided that a $10 annual fee per member (discounted to $5 for new sign-ups) should be an appropriate place to start in the 2014 offseason (precise date to be determined), and we'll see how that affects the bottom line for next season. Payments can be made over PayPal (recipient also TBD, likely directly to Chuck). There will be a few designated sub-forums that permit lurkers, but most forums (including the team ones) will go behind the paywall.

This is a democratic sort of place, so we're willing to hold discussions if people think the amount is too great, too little, etc., or if there is a better solution, such as merging with a different website. Feel free to put your thoughts in this thread.

I've been paying for the domain name for years. I would consider that my contribution and I will continue to do so. My paranoia thoroughly enjoys this "pay wall" to separate us from the rabble and google archives. I would rather pay than have ads.

I, being lame and me, was on the site when this got posted. I'm a bit sharper at 10 PM than I am at 8 AM. The whole midnight posting made it impossible for me to believe the premise.

So yeah, joking aside, we could easily make the forum content members -only without actually instituting a pay-wall if people wanted that. Reduces the chance of new membership from slim to none, though.

In all honesty the Net has passed this place by......most people Tweeter and facescrew their thoughts now..This place is pretty generic and has little flash and dash or bells and whistles to attract the new folk. There are a lot of grumpy old men here who used to be young. If we wanted to attract new clientele this place needs a serious facelift and more tolerance. Otherwise......I say we button it up. That's my two cents......now for that redirect.

The memberlist probably needs to be purged....we haven't had a new contributor since Spiderman the Habs guy (2011)! His GDTs are very pretty.....

I wouldn't mind some new faces (after all we wouldn't really know Mr BnG, Patty, or Chuck if not for "recruiting drives") but it's not at the top of my list.

Problem is we're adding no one and continue to lose people. Not a healthy long term sustainbable trend.
