The headlines right now are the sparse attendance, and the event holders (yeah, I'm looking at YOU, Pegula) are getting raked over the coals for charging exorbitant prices for tickets.

And shit like this is just ridiculous. Seriously, dressing Team USA up like the Bills!?!?

http://www.usahockey.com/news_article/s ... _id=752796

Anyhow, onto the actual hockey. Canada beat Finland 4-2, USA beat Denmark (or Danmark I guess) 9-0. The Czechs, who may finally be back, beat the Russians 5-4 and Sweden beat Belarus 6-1. USA are the favorites going into this, but my money's on Canada. Kinda torn as I'd like USA to repeat but Canada has two key Avs prospects in Cale Makar and Conor Timmins on their blueline. And obviously I'll be watching for kids like Svechnikov, Zadina, Dahlin, and Pettersson.

I've watched a couple of games so far and was also surprised at the attendance. I like Team Canada's chances this year.

There were probably less than 200 people at the Switzerland/Belarus contest the other day.

Hopefully we'll see packed houses for later rounds but it's disheartening to see nonetheless.

Happened in Montreal too. Unless you're in Toronto or a hardcore junior town, you can't charge full price to these things.

Davey vs Goliath and Davey won. Can't ever lose focus in sports and certainly USA wasn't focussed in the first period.

Maybe heads were in the big outdoor game against Canada today instead of in the moment.

Should have had Yoda in the dressing room: "Focus you must or lose you will! Pride these Slovacs are playing for! Always in the future you are not in the here and now."

Oh well, bit of a wake-up call for the American kids. We'll see if they respond. Now is the time to lose one if you're gonna lose one.

I still think Canada wins out in this one.

Looking forward to the outdoor game but I won't predict who will win. Teams are pretty well matched and whoever adapts to the playing environment quicker will probably triumph. Yesterday's loss should be a big motivator to the USA and I would expect them to come out of the box aggressively.

I'm obviously biased but I think Canada has the best defensive corps in the tournament, and might have the best goaltender. That'll make up for the fact they don't have a ton of elite firepower up front.

If you can find it on Twitter, the postgame celebration video by Team Slovakia is awesome.

USA comes out strong but Canada takes an early lead on the PP. Portends to be a great game.

Well, I wasn’t counting on Canada’s coach to be a moron so I’m grateful he sat his best defenseman and tried to sit on the lead. USA just kept hammering away until they tied it.

Casey Mittelstadt is gonna be the star who finally saves the Buffalo Sabres. He’s an astounding talent and, maybe more importantly, has the swagger of a true franchise cornerstone.

Overall I thought this outdoor game was a farce (the Captain and I briefly discussed why on Twitter) but obviously pleased with the result. Looking forward to the elimination and medal rounds.

No cable, no coverage anyway in the states or via the NHL package. Usually I watch this every year. Not this year. I would imagine it will be the same for the Olympics.

Still miss hockeystreams.

Gonna be an all-Avs prospect pairing tonight with Mete out, Timmins and Makar get to start the game on the same blueline.

Hard not to get really excited about both of these kids, especially considering how barren the Avs have been of blue-chip defensive talent in the organization.

Great final game.

What's with the Swede throwing his medal into the stands? Very unsportsmanlike  - I understand he's going to the Rangers.

Wow! What a douche. The medal throwing is more common than I thought. Unbelievable.

I have no problems with what he did. To me, unsportsmanlike would be not shaking your opponents hand, or refusing to attend the ceremony or refusing to accept the medal. He showed up but didn't want to keep the medal. Even when he tosses it he is respectful of the safety of the fans. Makes eye contact and does a nice soft lob. Could of just taken it off and hurled it catching some unaware fan in the head. He's someone I'd actually like to have on my team.
