How long till Teuvo's playing with the Hawks? Like they need another star.
Not to mention a pretty good showing by the Buffalo kids.
That's quite the scouting staff Bowman has. Speaking of which--a bit off-topic--but someone will need to tell me why Brandon Saad fell so low in the draft. He was projected to be a first rounder if I recall correctly.
I think Saad got hurt in his draft year.
Funnily enough, the Hawks passed over Saad THREE TIMES, to draft dull nobodies Mark McNeill, Phil Danault and Adam Clendening.
Only one of those guys I had ahead of Saad then was McNeill, who seemed like a legit NHLer with some power forward game that could be valuable. Saad falling that year was shocking. Kucherov less so, had both quite a bit higher than where they went.
The Habs' choice at 3rd overall was supposedly Galchenyuk or Teravainen. Tuevo had a lot of teams looking at him very high. Then there was a weird 'OMG I NEED A D' run that pushed Tuevo to the Hawks, who are stacked everywhere but goalie (and not awful at that position either) so they were like 'sure, we'll take the potential top 5 guy you all passed on for Slater Koekkoek, Derek Pouliot and Griffin Reinhart'.
The fact that a nation of 5m can win this event is awesome. We need hockey to become a major thing in a western European country at some point, or even better an East Asian country, but it's still awesome that we can have tiny countries that care as much about the sport as Canada does kick our asses every once in a while. If Latvia ever won this I think it might be the greatest moment in the history of the sport.
