Its pretty well known that the Russians still have a hard on for punting the USA's balls. And hell why not? They were the favorites last year on their soil and finished 3rd. Expecting young impulsive kids to always have class probably isn't advisable anyway. That Russian kid took ownership which is more than I can say for most adults. Its certainly not Piestany.

I think its great to see the the improved play of countries in the tourney. I am tired of the Canadians or the Americans.

Of concern to me was all this talk about how Germany had improved its national program and now they are right there with Norway in relegation and down a game to boot.

Yup. Finland was beating everyone to pucks all over the ice.

That was an awful fucking coaching job from Sutter. Stuff isn't working? Keep on doing it! Attempt to load up the right side of the PP every single goddam time. Finland pinches it off the first million times and forces the puck out or an all-advised pass. Welp, better keep on doing it! Finnish goalie stopping every single dump-in? Welp, better keep dumping it in!

Russia has got to feel good ousting both the Canadians and the Americans.

The Canadians have work to do.

How long till Teuvo's playing with the Hawks? Like they need another star.

Not to mention a pretty good showing by the Buffalo kids.

That's quite the scouting staff Bowman has. Speaking of which--a bit off-topic--but someone will need to tell me why Brandon Saad fell so low in the draft. He was projected to be a first rounder if I recall correctly.

I think Saad got hurt in his draft year.

Funnily enough, the Hawks passed over Saad THREE TIMES, to draft dull nobodies Mark McNeill, Phil Danault and Adam Clendening.

Only one of those guys I had ahead of Saad then was McNeill, who seemed like a legit NHLer with some power forward game that could be valuable. Saad falling that year was shocking. Kucherov less so, had both quite a bit higher than where they went.

The Habs' choice at 3rd overall was supposedly Galchenyuk or Teravainen. Tuevo had a lot of teams looking at him very high. Then there was a weird 'OMG I NEED A D' run that pushed Tuevo to the Hawks, who are stacked everywhere but goalie (and not awful at that position either) so they were like 'sure, we'll take the potential top 5 guy you all passed on for Slater Koekkoek, Derek Pouliot and Griffin Reinhart'.

The fact that a nation of 5m can win this event is awesome. We need hockey to become a major thing in a western European country at some point, or even better an East Asian country, but it's still awesome that we can have tiny countries that care as much about the sport as Canada does kick our asses every once in a while. If Latvia ever won this I think it might be the greatest moment in the history of the sport.
