Overreactions all around. The coach was wrong to pull all his players out and forfeit the game when he didn't get an immediate apology from the opposition (the coach later wrote a letter and benched the player responsible for the racial slur for the remainder of the game, what the fuck more you want!?) and the league is just hiding behind their rulebook. Just silly.

Sorry, I grew up in the most typical American suburb you can think of and even then on the ice all kinds of outrageous shit was getting thrown around. Opposing players used to bait my hispanic teammates all the damned time. They got mad, they occasionally threw down, but usually we just used it as motivation to kick their asses. I can still remember a time when one of my teammates got in some hot water because he threatened to "pop a cap in the ass" of some punk-ass taunting him. Obviously today such a threat would likely have gotten my buddy suspended for a LONG time, but that's just kids being punks on the ice. I don't condone racism in any context, but this situation has been blown WAY out of proportion.

the kid wasn't benched for the rest of the game, he was back for the 3rd period, hence the coach led boycott. That stupid ass kids should have been done for the season, not the coach, 3 games? BS. not liked it did a BJ motion, Racism has no place anywhere.

My bad, nonetheless, he should've let the league deal with it. If any sort of subsequent punishment wasn't enough, THEN maybe you protest the next game. It's a bad move though to not let the kids go back out there and settle the score (through actual play, not fisticuffs).

In any event, he was reinstated.

Racism has no place in hockey or anywhere else, but it exists, and there are better ways to deal with it.
