Anyone watching? Team Canada embarrassed the Germans yesterday, winning by a couple of touchdowns. I didn't think it was classy running up the score, so we'll see if karma comes back to bite them.

Askarov looked good for Russia.

USA refuses to put their best players Zegras and Caufield on a line together. Has the US ever had good junior tournament coaching? I feel like their decisions are always cloaked in layers of politics.

I watched US vs Russia. Thought the score was closer than the play. US looked bad and kinda lazy, but lucky.
Then the US whooped Austria, which like you said above, I thought was classless. 11-0? Lame. I guess if you get to that level, you want to be able to say you scored or want to pad your stats for future negotiations or something, but I don't like to see any team win or lose by that much. Unless it's revenge for that team having beaten you similarly before.

I'll try to catch more games.

Canada is slapping the shit out of the Swiss. 5-0 after 2 periods. Shots are like 31-6. Doesn't look like teams in the same league.

US wins Group B after a lackluster start in round robin play. Canada is probably going to go undefeated through the whole damn tournament.

Quarter Final games all day Saturday:
Russia v Germany
Finland v Sweden
Canada v Czechs
US v Slovakia

Semi-Finals on Monday.
Bronze & Gold games on Tuesday.

US vs Canada for gold, Russia vs Finland for bronze.
The US blew a 2 goal lead and needed a late goal to beat Finland 4-3. Canada whooped Russia 5-0. So I fully expect Canada to sweep the whole damn tournament, but I hope not.

Leave it to Canada to get overconfident and play down in the final, but so far they've cruised in this tournament.

Cozens looks good. Ditto Zegras on the other side. Don't ruin them, Buffalo and Anaheim!

This is the 5th time in history these teams meet for the gold medal, with Canada winning the first one and the US winning the last three.

Canada has played well, but the US have a chance as EL pointed out, that they may be a little over confident.

We will see.

Good luck to both teams.

So what exactly happened to Askarov? I'm still kinda miffed that he completely shut down an absolutely STACKED Team USA and then turns in a less-than-stellar performance against the Canadians in this tourney. Make up your mind, bro!

Anyway, should be a fun gold medal game.

He looked like he was lacking the fundamentals against Canada. Played small to the shooters and had a weak glove. Not the goalie I was expecting. He'll need to tighten up before he gets to the pros.

On a side note, Bob McKenzie tweeted that the league won't require kids heading to their respective NHL clubs to have to quarantine if they fly private.

Get that goddamn jet fueled up, Stanley.

He's keeping Russia within reach in the bronze medal game. Seems to have returned to form but will need to learn how to hold onto his stick if he wants to be a regular NHLer.

2-0 win for the US. Not what I expected.

Canada hadn't allowed an even strength goal all tournament. The US scored both goals at even strength. A deflection and a rebound.

Fun tournament to watch.

Now, on to NHL hockey!

Amazing win by the US. Congratulations to our American brothers and sisters.

They gave Canada a taste of their own medicine, quick moving pucks, giving up nothing inside on the defensive end - a near perfect game.

Loved the sub plot goalie battle of Knight v. Levi, both property of Luongo's school of goaltending in Florida. Knight won tonight.

The "trash can" thing is getting a tad overblown. The Americans explain that it's a "barrel" not a trash can, and that they've done it all tournament. Frankly, I don't buy that story entirely, but also...get over it, Canada. Come back next year and kick their ass if you're mad about it. This is almost as ridiculous as the over-the-top reaction when Lias Andersson chucked his medal.

More annoying to me was that John fucking Vanbiesbrouck was the guy handing out the medals. Fuck that.

The 2019 draft class from the U.S. National Under-18 Team will go down in history, and they made good on the hype last night, even without Hughes. Zegras is unbelievable. Knight the future Luongo.
