Who's on your watch list for the Olympics? Obviously talking Canada, but America, Sweden, Russia, etc all will have some tough calls to make.

We're only a year out. This half-season will be scrutinized a lot next summer, but heading into it, I like for Canada:

C: Crosby, Giroux, Toews, Thornton
C/W: Stamkos, Tavares, E. Staal, Bergeron, Seguin
W: Perry, Sharp, Hall, Couture/Neal/Eberle (one of those 3)

Sorry, Iggy and Doan. Time to move on, Thornton is now the senior Canadian up front. I suppose I could see both Iggy and Doan competing for that last winger spot, both being RH is an advantage, and it'd be a checking role (or if it was Eberle it'd be the 13th forward PP specialist guy). I'd have Ryan O'Rielly in the mix as well, but I'd have a hard time picking him in the end.

D: Keith, Weber, Doughty, Letang, Vlasic, Boyle, Beauchemin/Phaneuf/Subban/Pietrangelo/Seabrook

Canada has a weird D, very right handed shot heavy. Weber, Doughty, Letang and Boyle should all be locks to be honest, but all are RH. So are Subban, Seabrook and Pietrangelo. At LD, only Keith is a lock. After him... that's why I have Vlasic there, Beauchemin and Phaneuf provide different things that are useful. Gone are Niedermeyer and Pronger now, that sucks as no one has really replaced them. Dan Hamhuis is also an option at LD, but I figured having Vlasic was enough for that role.

G: Price, Ward, Luongo.

That's the easy job. Picking who starts from those three is the tougher one.

Conclusion: up front Canada are absolutely fantastic. D will be tough to find the chemistry. Goal will be about finding the right guy that week, no obvious standout right now of the 3.

Oh yeah, and obviously Crosby is now the national team captain going forward.

You forgot O'Rielly, E.L. Also, E. Kane is in there as well (and the guys I mentioned as late cuts for Team 1, obviously). And Dan Girardi on D.

Hmm... USA:

Parise - Pavelski - Kane
Ryan - Kesler - Kessel
Pacioretty - Backes - Brown

Pick 4: Oshie, Legwand, Pominville, Stepan, Stafford, Wheeler, Okposo, Callahan... Galchenyuk?

McDonagh - Carlson
Suter - Carle

Pick 3: Byfuglien, Martin, Fowler, Goligoski, Petry, Leddy, Gleason, Yandle, Shattenkirk.... Faulk? But USA will probably still pick J. Johnson, lol

Quick, Miller, Howard/Schneider. Thomas the wildcard as always.

Already agreed that NHLers are in the Prolymics for 2014? Boooo! I disapprove.

Man, if Timmy's still good enough to beat out those guys in 2014...geez.

I think EJ will get a shot as well, I'd take him over Carle at least. That'd be awesome of Shatty got a spot.

I really don't have a problem with the prolympics, except for the bullshit politics that surround it, and the fact that it interrupts the NHL season.

This is a rather funnily-named line. It sounds like a PA announcer simply stumbling over Ryan Kesler's name.

Sound more like Bob Cole trying to say Erik Karlsson or Bobby Ryan.

TSN is apparently not joking about this team they picked, that is indeed Chris Kunitz on the top line. You know, Chris Kunitz, who needed to play with Crosby to put up a whole two more points than Taylor Hall did playing with Sam Gagner. Also, Subban and Bergeron as extras, despite them being likely two of the ten best players in the world today.

Yeesh. Go Finland or Sweden if this is the case.

Thank Advanced Stats: Kunitz scored high on the Putin heterosexuality index.

Starting to think the awkward photo shoot is intentional by the US Olympic team.

Those USA jerseys are horrible. The stars & "laces" look like they're made of blacktop crack filler. WTF were they thinking? The stars are like bedazzling. Awful.

Not being American I refrained from commenting first but since you were gracious enough to set the tone Chris, it looks like someone borrowed a uni from the 1930's and then had Tinkerbell crap all over it. Pretty awful.

As I said on Twitter, they manage to be tacky and bland at the same time. And those fake fucking plastic ties...UGH!!!!

At least the Russian ones were more ambitious.

I actually like the subtlety of the 1930s look, but the "modern" bedazzling on the shoulders is just fucking awful. You can't mix old & new. Either go totally retro (ala the Rangers Winter Classic jerseys, which were so highly praised), or to totally new school. Trying to do both usually ends in a shit show.

And no worries from me about non-Americans commenting on them. I just hope Putin doesn't find the bedazzling to be propaganda.

Apparently there are going to be patches on the USA's men's and women's uniforms commemorating the 1960 and 1980 gold medals. While being ridiculous (could you imagine the Canadian 4x100 relay team wearing something saying "1996" on it?) they completely ignore USA Hockey's third Olympic gold medal: the 1998 women's, while making the women's team wear the 1960 and 1980 patches. Honestly.

That's priceless, bet the women are pissed, and I bet it changes before the Olympics.
