It might be just what puts the NHL over the top to not returning to the Olympics. Some of these injuries significantly impact clubs.

Jon Tavares Out For the Season MCL 8-12 weeks

Paul Martin PIT Broken Hand 4-6 weeks

Carey Price Lower Body Day to Day

Fedor Tyutin CLB Ankle 2-3 weeks

Henrik Zetterberg...this one is iffy because he had this before Sochi....but did he aggravate the shit out of it in Sochi so that he might miss the rest of the season? Certainly. Out For the Season

Mats Zuccarello NYR...2-3 Weeks Hand Fracture

Tomas Kopecky....FLA Concussion Out for Season

Ryan Kesler VAN Day to Day Hand

Does anybody know whether if NHL players bail would KHL and euro pro leagues still send their best players? Canada and the US would be made up of the best unsigned free agents, college and juniors?

Oh yeah, it's completely a NHL only proposition. All the other leagues would send players. Like in '92 and '94. I think in those Olympics the designation of amateur had dropped, it was just the NHL who didn't send players. It'd actually be a lot like what happened with baseball before the sport was dropped.

Did any junior and college players play for Canada or US in 92 and 94? Seems like Canada could put together a medal-contending team with unsigned UFAs, recent NHL retirees, euro league guys and the top juniors or college players.

Paul Kariya was the star of the '94 team. He was in the NCAA at the time. Lindros was on the '92 team while holding out on Quebec.

I kinda/sorta sided with the owners/GMs for a bit, but after hearing their incessant whining about the Prolympics, while at the same time bitching about their own players getting snubbed, I am 100% for the Prolympics experiment continuing indefinitely.
