Hockey participation is stronger across the whole country, save for Oregon for some reason (best not to count Hawaii, really, they don't have minor hockey at all). Alaska has the highest participation rate, surpassing Minnesota over the past 20 years. You can definitely see the impact of the NHL coming to Texas, North Carolina, and Florida (all states with Cup winners). With the NHL leaving Atlanta, the league is now no longer in any of the bottom 10 states by this 'hockey culture' metric.
Time for the WHL to go back to Montana.
