I'm doing this series on hockey's presence in North America, but decided to just focus on the USA on this one.

Hockey participation is stronger across the whole country, save for Oregon for some reason (best not to count Hawaii, really, they don't have minor hockey at all). Alaska has the highest participation rate, surpassing Minnesota over the past 20 years. You can definitely see the impact of the NHL coming to Texas, North Carolina, and Florida (all states with Cup winners). With the NHL leaving Atlanta, the league is now no longer in any of the bottom 10 states by this 'hockey culture' metric.

Time for the WHL to go back to Montana.

Great article - well done. 11 players in Hawaii - how does that work?

"Sorry K'ai, you showed up last so you'll play nets. For both teams."

Maybe they play "half-court"?

I've heard roller/inline hockey is pretty popular in Hawaii. Does this not count now that USA Hockey has turned over the sanctioning to Inline Sports or whatever it's called?

I understand these to be ice hockey players. But these guys could be ex-mainlanders who are just working in Hawaii for a year or two and want to play in tournaments when back home for Christmas or something.
