Lets face it , Mens hockey deserves its own dedicated thread not to drown out the general thread for everything else.

Getzlaf is good to go. Everybody is in town now.

Im really curious to see who the starting 6 D is caz I saw one projected line up that had Doughty in and She Weber out. Even the forwards , I saw Mike Richards out and Patrice Bergeron in as 4th line centre.

According to what I'm reading the yanks lineup so far will be:

Parise-Stastny-Kane
Brown-Kesler-Langenbrunner

J. Johnson-Orpik

Everything else hasn't been set in stone yet according to Wilson.

I still want to see a Callahan-Kesler-Brown line, and hopefully Backes draws in before Drury.

Here's what I just stumbled across: http://www.ctvolympics.ca/hockey/news/n ... cid=rsstsn
Team Canada:
Bergeron-Crosby-Nash
Staal-Getzlaf-Perry
Marleau-Thornton-Heatley
Morrow-Richards-Iginla(Toews)

Niedermeyer-Weber
Pronger-Boyle
Keith-Seabrook

(Luongo gets the start against Team Norway tomorrow night, while Brodeur will get the start against Team Switzerland).

Team Russia:
Ovechkin-Datsyuk-Semin
Afinogenov-Malkin-Kovalchuk
Koslov-Federov-Radulov
Zinoviev-Morozov-Zaripov (who?)

Markov-Nikulin
Tyutin-Gonchar
Kalinin-Volchenkov

Team USA:
Stastny-Kane-Parise
Malone-Pavelski-Kessel
Langenbrunner-Kesler-Brown
Callahan(Ryan)-Drury-Backes

No d pairings...

Niedermeyer-Weber should be the 3rd pairing. The other 4 are better d-men right now. Hell, Doughty is better than those two as well.

Those D pairings make way more sense. Doughty is my favourite D man right now , I got him in my pool and would've loved Vancouver build around him over the next 20 years. BUT hockey canada felt Crosby wasnt ready at the same age , Stamkos isnt ready at the same age despite both being scoring stars at the same age , I dont get the double standard.

I dont like Iginla as a 4th line energy guy , he'll do it caz he's that kind of guy but hurry up and get the Bergeron-Crosby reunion out of the way so they can get Iginla back with Sid and Nash. If anything I would put Iggy with Getz and Perry for a kick your ass , piss you off line. Try Eric Staal with Sid and Nash. Did Rick Nash not play with Thornon and Heatly in europe during the lockout? There's another possibilty and put Marleau with Getz and Perry.

Cant wait to see Babcock's lines tonight.

I would've liked to see a Brown-Kesler-Backes line for the ultimate in your face , hack and smack line.

Im looking at some of Norways players , most if not all are from Euro leagues. Canada should destroy them tonight , seeing how goals make a difference , no mercy either. Can you imagine the panic/outrage/fury on the streets if Norway caught Canada sleeping togight , esp if Luongo pulls a Tommy Salo and lets a stinker in from centre , esp in this town! mayhem! it would be tragically hilarious.

I know Russia has some sexy names on the top two lines but after that not so impressive. Way overrated IMO with the amount of people calling them to win. But as a goalie maybe I over worth Defensive defensive and goal tending?

Well, Nabokov and Bryzgalov are definitely ahead of Brodeur and Luongo for Vezina votes this year... Nabby might finally win one, actually. Markov, Gonchar, and Volchenkov are all top line blueliners in the NHL... after that it's a bit suspect, but these guys have international experience, particularily Korneev and Nikulin. Are they lacking? In comparison to Canada, yes. Is it enough of a weakness to exploit in a one game knockoff tourney? Hasn't hurt them at the World Championships the past two years, and contrary to popular belief, this isn't a huge step up from that level of play.

Guys like Morozov and Zinvojev have (had) the talent to be quality NHLers, so I'm not so sure the lesser names on Team Russia are bad by virtue of not being NHL pros.

First update is posted--Yanks lead those neutral bastards 1-0 after 1, Bobby Ryan scoring on his Ducks teammate Jonas Hiller. Sounds like the Parise-Stastny-Kane line is generating plenty of chances.

What are your thoughts on the scoring system? Three points for a regulation win, two for an overtime/shootout win, one for an OT/shootout loss, and none for a regulation loss.

This Yankee team is good. Lots of energy and speed.

If you aren't going to have ties, then this is the scoring system that makes sense unlike the bizzaro NHL some games award three points and some games award two points system.

NBCOlympics.com has a live feed, at least that's what Puck Daddy was saying.

Apparently Backes scored a beauty early in the second.

Watching the NBCOlympics' feed from work :munch: ... It's quaint that that it has an old-school "Boss" key there... :D I was going to say that you wouldn't need one in Canada, but then all of the Team Canada games are later in the day...

EDIT: Sweet! It even has a scrub bar at the bottom to let you rewind to an earlier part of the game just as if you'd had a DVR...

Can't do streaming video at work without raising the ire of the IT department...seriously a ticker wouldn't hurt viewership that much. Can't even get Gamecenter on NHL.com. Fucking ridiculous. I'm following Michael Russo's Twitter feed instead. Try and stop THAT you bunch of fucking Conan-haters!!!

It's pretty funny, he's going OFF on Yannick Weber. Keeps calling him Ray Bourque-less on account of the 77 he's wearing. I guess he's having a pretty brutal outing so far.

It was... Ryan Miller stopped a Swiss chance directly in front, Backes picked up the puck from his own slot, skated out along the left wing with speed and went around the defender, cut in front of the goalie, backhand to forehand, nothing but mesh.

Thank goodness for the NBC scrub bar and a fast internet connection...
