Immediately following the Winter snooze...er...Classic.

I won't be too mad if Komisarek gets the nod, but if Drury gets in Burke's a frakking moron.

Drury makes it, Gomez doesn't. Horseshit.

Stastny makes it for the Avs, but Anderson gets snubbed in favor of Jon Quick.

Not a big fan of the Jack Johnson selection either.

On paper canada looks much better. The game is played on ice though.

2010 U.S. Olympic
Men's Ice Hockey Team

Forwards (13)
David Backes
Dustin Brown
Ryan Callahan
Chris Drury
Patrick Kane
Ryan Kesler
Phil Kessel
Jamie Langenbrunner
Ryan Malone
Zach Parise
Joe Pavelski
Bobby Ryan
Paul Stastny

Defensemen (7)
Erik Johnson
Jack Johnson
Mike Komisarek
Paul Martin
Brooks Orpik
Brian Rafalski
Ryan Suter

Goaltenders (3)
Ryan Miller
Jonathan Quick
Tim Thomas

Plenty of truculence, pugnacity, blah blah blah. It's a team that has no chance of outplaying the competition, but could outmuscle them, which makes sense.

Still...the Drury selection IMO is crap. Most of us Avs fans were kind of rooting for Andy to get snubbed, he could use the rest. At least it was Quick and not Howard.

BTW, did they mention who the captain is?

Not a ton of leadership on this squad. If I were to make a choice on who wears the C I'd definitely pick Rafalski. He's obviously got the most experience playing on this stage.

It's going to come down to goaltending and defense, namely, physical defense. Obviously the scoring talent is there but we obviously don't have weapons across the board like Canada and Russia. Hell, I don't think we even have as much scoring depth as Slovakia.

Burke didnt like the Bruin fans booing Kessel. Fuck them both. They even booed Komisarek. Best fans in the league...

oh and I doubt Vancouver fans will have forgotten Jack Johnson...

"In my mind we've got several guys who have demonstrated leadership at the NHL level and in international competition before and I'm comfortable with that part of our group."

During the announcement of the U.S. Olympic Team in Boston on New Year's Day, Burke did single out forwards Jamie Langenbrunner and Chris Drury as potential leaders. Team USA head coach Ron Wilson and Burke will assign a captain at a later date.

Yeah...Drury a potential leader.

Roenick says what everyone else is thinking, though I wish he would've just let loose.

No surprise, Langenbrunner named captain, with Drury  and Parise given the A's.

Not sure I get what is wrong in that article, Av.

Apparently Wilson has said that he doesn't think either Martin or Komisarek will be healthy enough to play, so I guess we're looking at two injury replacements. Scuderi and Whitney, perhaps? Bogosian?

They're saying Jack Johnson was named to Team USA. I could have sworn only Erik made it.

Komisarek and Martin out, Gleason and Whitney in.

Kinda surprised Gleason got the nod over Wisniewski, admittedly I haven't seen much of either one play this season.

For 2 weeks at least, I get to love Brian Burke. He's already in classic form.

Quote:
"We're getting screwed on the schedule because we're in Canada," said Burke, who is returning to Vancouver, where he worked for years as the Vancouver Canucks' general manager. "I mean, it makes sense. They want Canada in the prime-time slot.

"Magically, when we play them, we're in the 4:30 slot. How did that happen?"

and

Quote:
"Steve Yzerman's a real smart man," said Burke. "He's trying to take some of that pressure off Canada, which I might mention in passing is glacial and unremitting and unrelenting. I can't imagine how they're going to function in this environment, but they'll find a way, I'm sure.

"The pressure started building on Team Canada the day Vancouver got the bid. That's when the expectations began.

 Awesome. I really love the fact that his comments about getting 'screwed' by Canada are so very ironic given his employment history.

Burke excels at that aspect of his job.
