Apparently underwent testing in January for the Olympics, and they found trace amounts of Ostarine, a banned substance, in his urine. He and his lawyer were able to prove that the Ostarine came from a tainted vitamin supplement he'd been taking (it was not listed among the ingredients on the bottle) to avoid getting COVID. If they had not done so, the suspension would have been FOUR YEARS. Wow.

On one hand, hey, you're responsible for what you put in your body and relying on holistic bullshit to protect you from COVID with supplements that have virtually no regulation on them whatsoever is reckless at best. While still on that hand, I find it funny the brazenly-doping Russians got caught red handed, didn't even bother to pretend they weren't, and the worst punishment that WADA and the IOC came up with is...they couldn't wave the flag at the medal ceremonies.

On the other hand, the amount of Ostarine in his system indicate it couldn't have possibly "enhanced" his performance. Regardless, he got off relatively easy compared to what it could've been. Six months during a time when no hockey is going to be played, he was allowed to complete his NCAA career, earned the sport's highest honor, and played for a national championship. Also, he'll find his way onto an NHL roster eventually.

There's too much money involved in suspending a whole country. A single player? Fuck them! Even if it's for trace amounts of something in his Flintstones gummy.

Didn't realize he signed with the Maple Leafs back in April of last year.
