Good pickup. Sportsnet had it before TSN, FYI.

good grief Harmy open your eyes boy!

The Recchi deal is sheer thievery. Lashoff is starting to look more and more like Jeff Jillson, tons of tools and potential but Christmas will come again before he puts it together, if ever. Karsums scored some big goals in the QMJHL but won't in the NHL. He gets a do-over with a pick that should be in the top half of the second round, and gets a character veteran with gas in the tank for the stretch run. Recchi is a left handed shot as well, so he replaces Axelsson and instantly upgrades the PP, which is where you score your goals in the playoffs anyway...

Also... Karsums and Lashoff are Gorton draftees... Chiarelli is quietly cleaning house with respect to the prospects the old regime acquired... not that Lucic, Kessel or Krejci are going anywhere...

^ within in a split second Lashoff goes from bluechipper to castoff and Recchi goes from old man to core leader

Lashoff may still turn out to be a very good player, I wont argue that. He has bluechip potential. But at a certain point if you keep calling him up, and he doesnt do much offensively, and hasnt totally figured it out defensively.. how long do you wait?

He may become an all-star. He may become a Jeff Jillson. But when you're one of a very few legitimate contenders, and you have a chance to add a guy like Recchi, greybeard and all, without moving much else, AND you get a good 2nd rounder back... I like this deal...

whatever... if Lashoff can't unseat Shane Hnidy for playing time I have no trouble dumping him for a guy with 45 points in 63 games...

Don't get me wrong I like picking up Mark Recchi....I just think the price is pretty steep. And all of this talk from Chiarelli about "IMPACT" was nonsense.

So you pick 48 instead of 38, big deal.

just saw John Garrett's commentary on the deal...

"is he gonna play on the PP, not likely..."

yet another example of how little Garrett knows about the NHL... Axelsson is firing blanks on the PP because
he's our only left handed shot. Recchi will see tons of time on the PP...

I loved the pickup of Recchi for basically nothing, and getting a 2nd rounder to boot
Lashoff has had 4 years to prove he's not a bust, and is failing miserably
The other Matt, a 7th round pick , is light years ahead of him at both ends of the ice
It is a little disturbing that Recchi is a -60 over his last 5 years
But I agree with Razz that Recchi adds playoff experience and helps their powerplay
Karsums and the 2nd rounder cancel out, so it's Recchi for Lashoff straight up
that is an outright steal for a contending team needing veteran grit

the Montador trade confuses the hell out of me; what is he bringing to the table
other than disrupting the defense pairings? A little offense? For that they need
look no further than the aforementioned "other" Matt - Hunwick, that is...
So either Ward or Hnidy is going to have a seat while Montador learns to gel
Hopefully he can not only move the puck, but actually play some defense
Meanwhile, Hunwick gets further away from playing (unless Montador bombs)
am I sounding like a broken record with Hunwick yet?
Oh well, the dude can flat out play, and should be playing (and I don't mean left wing)

Montador is a plus 14 on a middling Ducks team, and has dished out a ton of hits and blocked a lot of shots this year... He will slot into the top 6 and allow Hnidy to be our #7, which is really what he should be.

Noke had zero goals in 33 games. Hunner can play up front, as can Montador for that matter. This is another steal - Noke will be back in Europe in a couple of years...
