Weirdly enough, I think the Columbus Blue Jackets made the best (Gaudreau) and worst (Gudbranson) signings of free agency day.

4 year, 16 million for Gudbranson??????? for a #6 or 7 dman? I know he's big, but I don't get what GM's keep seeing in this guy.

“Ya can’t teach size. He’s yuuuge!”

Liking the Petry trade.

End a problem, sign Pitlick with the cap savings, and have a potentially good project who either works out or leaves as a UFA when the team starts to hit its stride. And he's a lefty.

And Poehling was pretty much expendable as...umm... the Habs have enough centers...?? :psyduck:

Poehling just never found the consistency you'd expect from a regular. No room with Suzuki-Dach-Dvorak-Evans.

I too like this trade. Pointe-Claire's Mike Matheson is a solid middle pairing guy who can skate and provide a little offence. I feel like Romanov's ceiling was a guy like this.

After a busy first day of free agency, Kadri, Klingberg, Kessel, Nino, Rodrigues, Subban and a few others remain unsigned.

The Devils pivoted to Palat after losing out on Gaudreau, so I suspect Lou Lams will do likewise and add Kadri (or Stastny/Rodrigues). Seattle seems like the obvious spot for Klingberg.

The 31 Thoughts guys thought Klingberg was Motor City-bound.

Overall that’s a lot of good players sitting around. I’m surprised both Stromes got snagged before Kadri, E-Rod, and Nino.

Nice deal for Nashville, getting Nino Niederreiter for two years, 4M AAV.

Agree, I like this pickup, player, price and all.

Not that anyone has any cap space, but I'd built a super 4th line of Aston-Reese, Larsson, Motte if I had an extra few mil lying around.

Rodrigues has gotten to the point where he might be underrated. Expected some Sid-skepticism but he might be a sneaky good ad for an Anaheim or Winnipeg.

Michael Raffl, still a useful grinder on Dallas last season, heads to Switzerland on a two-year deal. As usual in free agency season, these sorts of guys get squeezed out.
