Sure, what's the point of being there if you can't get paid, or you are paid and the money can't be moved out of the country?

Rumor is Varlamov was asked to waive his NTC to go to Edmonton- and refused.

Now this is going around. https://twitter.com/SlavaMalamud/status/1500225641807032327?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1500225641807032327%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fcomments.lighthousehockey.com%2Fapi%2Foembed%3Ftype%3Dtwitterurl%3Dhttps3A2F2Ftwitter.com2FSlavaMalamud2Fstatus2F1500225641807032327siteID%3D2665bb41-34ab-4b1c-8b7a-47754e77cb81initialWidth%3D712childId%3Dframe-id-f550301b-f540-4978-8910-77141b06f816-a8115a40-a09a-11ec-8692-f1cac19093b9

Yep, I very well remember that. Also, some very big questions concerning his arrest in Colorado for domestic violence. Charges were dropped but we know that doesn't necessarily mean he is innocent.

From a pure hockey standpoint, I don't think Varly is all that good anymore. There's been rumblings about him returning to Colorado, hope they aren't true. Kinda sad the Avs never really did find an upgrade on him.

I kinda hate learning about players' personal lives. They rarely impress me with their world views/decisions.

Shit! Helleson has really developed well in the NCAA since getting selected in the 2nd round in 2019. Someone in the know on HF compared him to Chris Tanev.

Oh well, gotta pay to play I guess. Avs are banking on Manson being the player that Erik Johnson used to be. Big, physical, and right-handed.

Avs are just never, ever gonna get a legit player in the 2nd round of the draft. They either trade those picks away, or they trade away the players/prospects who were selected with the few 2nd rounders they kept.

Colorado keeps busy moving Jost's 2M salary out for pending UFA Nico Sturm. Easy way to clear cap for the next move without losing anything.

Chiarot is scratched tonight.

It FINALLY happened. One of the most frustrating, polarizing players in Avs history has finally left the building.

I wish Josty well, but...I'm glad the Avs are done with him if we're being honest. He's a very mediocre NHLer.

Sturm is already a big upgrade, AND Sakic manages to clear cap room in the deal. Big win for the Avs...so long as they put that cap room to good use.

I find that with most people in general. This is why we are supposed to have separation and why this is supposed to remain a game. Can he stop the puck? Yes/No, is he a decent teammate? Yes/no, move on. I don't profess to be the judge of whether he deserves it based on his world views. But there are a lot of morality crusaders a foot nowadays that see it differently.

These minor deals sure are paying off in a big way at addressing needs. Impressive maneuvering from Joe.

Florida dumps Vatrano's cap hit on the Rangers

Hertl stays in San Jose, obviously: 8 x 8M AAV. Players rarely leave the Bay.

Sounds like Florida's getting Giroux. Not sure where that leaves Colorado. I don't think Claude was keen at all on moving his family any great distance.

Big Ben to the cats for 2022fourth, some NCAA long shot and a 2023 first.

The first in 2023 is a great pickup. Especially given they say that this year is a likely weak draft.

Habs retain half of the remaining salary for the year.

Hughes gets his first. Good first deadline for Kent already.

I see in light of what happened to Copp and Chychrun that teams are sitting their trade chips. Giordano didn't play for Seattle last night, Chiarot was bubble-wrapped prior to last night's deal with Florida.

Giroux likely to Florida but nothing official as I hit the hay.

Jack McBain's (son of Andrew) Boston College career survives to Saturday, after which the Minnesota Wild have to trade the Canadian Olympian because he won't sign there. Habs (and Jets) want him real bad. How about Lehkonen for him and the 2nd rounder they'll get for not signing Filip Johansson? Habs can even take Rask's contract.

Friedman says he thinks Colorado's offer for Giroux is better than Florida's, but Fletcher is holding out because he wants Zito to add to his.

Adrian Dater, who had his press credential yanked after a rather embarrassing exchange between him and Nathan MacKinnon last year, is still trying to cover the team and tweeted that he thinks Giroux is concerned he'd be bumped to the 2nd power play unit if he got sent to Colorado. My thought is, well, duh, of course you would be, but I also think this is hogwash. I don't think Giroux gives a flying fuck how he's utilized, he's likely picking Florida because they're a contender, but they're also much closer to home than Colorado.
