Isles send Boychuk and his $6 million salary to Buffalo to get them to the salary floor for future considerations. Without Boychuk's LTIR hit, the Isles are now $2 million below the cap, so if they don't make any moves by the deadline they will have accrued around $10 million in cap space, and could load up for the playoffs. Brilliant move by Lou.
Last year Boychuk was with the team as an advisor. This year he's stayed in Edmonton, so he wasn't helping them at all. Lou said he'd welcome him back with open arms after this year. Could be a coach of some sort.
