TRADE:

2019 2nd RD pick (PIT)
2019 4th RD pick (PIT)
2019 4th RD pick (MIN)

Panthers clear up cap space for a Panarin, Bobrovsky run, while the Pens get a reclamation project in Bjugstad.

Hope Big Nick turns it around. Concussions and other injuries have really taken a toll. And I don't see a ton of Panthros games but McCann appears to have stalled in his development. Still, I'd think he'd at least hold the fort playing 3rd line center behind Sid and Geno.

I'm reading Flo Rida is already looking to move Brassard elsewhere. If nothing else, a roster spot will soon be open for Henrik Borgstrom full-time.

It's clear Jim Rutherford DGAF about draft picks.

How many more kicks does Sid, Gene and Phil have at the can? 2-3 years, if even? A 23rd overall pick won't be much help then.

And the Cats can deal both guys they got for extra picks. This was a Nick for picks trade with bodies thrown in to even out the money.

I dunno...Joe Sakic remained an elite player well past the age of 35. I could see Sid aging along those lines. Not sure about Geno though.

It's that defense that makes no sense to me. How many times has Pittsburgh completely whiffed on a defensive prospect since Sid came to town? They even acquired another team's bust in Penny Oleksiak's brother, then handed him back after he got his ass handed to him in a fight with Tom Wilson (and I don't think for a moment that fight and the result didn't play a part in the decision). Taken by itself, that D-corps (Letang/Dumolin/Schultz/Riiiiiiikola) doesn't look like a contender to me...but it was more or less the core that won two Cups, so...

I get what Rutherford is trying to do but his last few moves since the 2nd Cup win have been questionable at best.
