reasonable price to pay if you believe your team has a shot at the cup, but not worth it just win a round and weaken futures imo.

This is unfortunately the short sighted win now kind of decision making that I expect and detest about Benning.

Yep - a move merely to preserve his job.

A desperation move to make up for a desperation move (the Ferland signing).

I feel like Rob Blake could've made this move a little later. He underplayed his hand, but I suppose he figured Toffoli was on a hot streak and his value wasn't going to be any higher. The prospect he got seems like a pretty good get.

Agree. Not sure there would be any upside to waiting although he could have been a fit in Colorado too. Madden is in the Hobey Baker conversation and currently tracks as a 3rd line center who can move up/ down the lineup.

Well having slept on it I still hate this deal but I'll give Benning credit for one thing, it makes the TB deal for Coleman look like a bit of a steal.

Toffoli's stats place him 7th in Canucks scoring with 34 points, 2 points ahead of Virtanen, 5th on goal scoring. That would suggest scoring depth as they could have 7 - 20 goal scorers (hasn't really been a problem this season), but that back end still looks rather porous. Should they not do anything with the D corps it could be a big problem down the stretch.

lol, Its Benning, we don't need a crystal ball to predict these things. Actually if you took away Bennings drafting skills, he and Bergevin would be the equivalent of GM twins.
 :P

Yeah, think we all agreed they should NOT be buyers but that they would be buyers. So predictable.

...which he hoped to replace a Derek Dorsett-type on the roster... For all the noise they made about perhaps going after Wayne Simmonds...

Well, colour me wrong about this one. Toffoli has been terrific, which doesn't bode well for Virtanen with Podgolzin and Hoglander coming up... After Markstrom, Toffoli is highest on GMJB's list to re-sign.

Speaking of Markstrom, there are rumors going around that the Red Wings are waiting for free agency to back up the Brinks truck.

F that. 30 years old and we are years away from having the required talent to compete.

Give us Demko to take some horrible contracts off of your hands and now we're talking.
