Opens Sept 25 and lasts two weeks. Teams are expected to be busy. Some names to look out for, based on the Athletic's piece on it:

Hank, Smith for the Rangers
Smith, Maatta for the Hawks
Turris, Santini for the Preds
Beagle, Backes, Steen, John Moore, Neal, Abdelkader
Jones, Hutton, Dubnyk in nets

If they buy out Beagle I still just...don't fucking get how Jim Benning continues to be employed.

But... But... He got them 2 Calder finalists and a Calder winner in three years! He was spot-on as far as the JT Miller acquisition went! Ad infinitum...

Seriously, he must have some incriminating evidence on the Aquaman to remain where he is. Beagle, Sutter, Ferland, Myers, Baertschi, Spooner...

First buyout is an unexpected one: Bobby Ryan. Hit is not that bad at all:

2020-21: $3,583,333 (-3.7M)
2021-22: $3,583,333(-3.7M)
2022-23: $1,833,333 (+1.8M)
2023-24: $1,833,333 (+1.8M)

I hope he gets another chance now that his life is seemingly doing better.

Honestly I think they're doing him a solid. Giving him one more chance to maybe latch on to a good team as a complimentary guy.

Was that announced? I didn't see it.

Not yet. People were talking about it like it's a foregone conclusion but I guess not.

I mean, the Wings Twitter page did the whole welcome thing, that doesn’t seem like something you’d do for a guy you’re buying out.

With Daley and Ericsson gone, I figured that they were actually going to play him.

Henrik Lundqvist bought out. Had one year left.

No idea if he'll catch on elsewhere, or if he even wants to leave the bright lights of NY. Does Jersey need a backup?

Blackwood is an RFA. Lundqvist in red would be really fucking weird!

Wonder if he'll look into going to Sweden to play with his twin bro.

Really? Abdelkader was no longer useful at 2 Million or was it just the longevity of the contract? The Wings have to spend money on somebody....what's their play?

3+M for the next 3 seasons and a $4.25M cap hit. I didn't even realize he only had 3 assists in the entirety of last season.

Wings should be taking on bad contracts to gain draft picks. Just like with Staal. Yzerman should be working the shit out of Jim Benning to take on Eriksson or someone to acquire Demko and let Benning drop the money on OEL and Markstrom.

Alzner was a mistake the moment the ink dried. Lost a step following hernia surgery and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs for the Caps.

Not sure what Bergevin and his pro scouts were thinking. What a huge whiff. The only person who sorta liked it at the time was McGuire, and even he thought the term was crazy.

Habs basically get no discount this year, but they needed to do it for the sake of the team and Laval. Alzner was a good soldier riding the bus in the AHL, but you couldn't expect him to do it forever.

Ouch...you aren't lying...that was rotten! 1 full season with the habs scoring 1 goal....13 points that's over a million dollars a point(not counting what he makes off the BO)! Where do I sign up!?

Bergevin will never live down that offseason, where he let Markov walk, balked at Radulov's demands and handed a huge chunk to Alzner. Not sure what he was thinking.
