Avs are technically "buyers" but won't be very aggressive. I won't be the least bit surprised if they do nothing at the deadline.

The only truly extraneous players they have are Mark Barberio and Colin Wilson, and both are out with injuries.

Mike Russo of The Athletic is very strongly hinting that there might be something big goin' down in Minnesota tomorrow.

My guess? Mark Stone ends up a Wild and Crazy Guy.

Two more games till the All-Star Break, which means teams are starting to figure out if they'll be buyers or sellers. Quite a few really desperate teams that you wouldn't expect to be in danger of missing the playoffs.

Motivated buyers: Maple Leafs, Golden Knights, Flames, Predators, Blackhawks, Hurricanes, Coyotes, Panthers, Oilers, Jets

Motivated sellers: Wild, Kings, Ducks, Sharks, Devils, Rangers, Red Wings

Potential swingers (likely renters): Canadiens, Flyers, Blue Jackets, Sabres

Renters: Bruins, Lightning, Capitals, Blues, Stars, Avalanche, Canucks, Penguins, Islanders

Nothing to buy or sell: Senators

Actually the Sens could probably bring in a decent haul for Jean-Gabriel Pageau, but they're probably keeping him.

They should absolutely keep Duclair as well.

Avs are interesting, I agree that they're "renters" but they're not looking to swing a big deal.

I think the Islanders are more in the category of "someone wake the GM from his long winter's nap."

The Canucks aren't really even in a position to rent, despite rumors surrounding Tryamkin re-entering the fray after the KHL season ends.

If Tryamkin comes back he's going to the NHL. He'll be a long way down the depth chart.

I put the Nucks in the renters camp because if they get an injury or two they might add a depth piece.

For sure. There's no way he takes a two way.

I don't think they should at all but I will be very surprised if they don't. In three to four years when Pettersen and Hughes are peaking is the to for it imo. Right now they need to conserve or even acquire picks to be dealt latet.

They need be sellers quite frankly. They need to do something about Baertschi and Stecher. Nothing will happen with Loui until he gets his bonus on July 1 and there is only 2 years left and a total of $4M on his agreement.

Agreed wholeheartedly, but he didn't even "sell" when it made complete sense to do so. The one and only trade I can recall where he was clearly "selling" was botched when Aquilini intervened and stopped Hamhuis from being dealt to Dallas.

Lebrun breaks it down for every team: https://theathletic.com/1556599/2020/01 ... -deadline/

The Coles Notes on his Canucks paragraph:

Quote:
Whether or not they can find any breathing room to declare themselves buyers remains to be seen. The thing is, I’m not convinced there’s an emergency roster need when this roster is healthy.

For the Habs, it's more dithering:

Quote:
They’ve got six of eight at home to start after the break although they’ve not been great at the Bell Centre this year. If they go on a tear does that give GM Marc Bergevin enough pause to keep his team intact?

He predicts they'll sell off the guys they just got, Scandella and Kovalchuk, as well as journeyman Nate Thompson. He thinks they'll keep all the pending UFAs because they want to go for it next year.

Las Vegas and Carolina are barely hanging on to Wild Card spots right now. I think their owners are desperate and as such, their GMs will be aggressive.

Nashville, Toronto, Winnipeg are also lower in the standings than they expected to be, so I imagine they'll make moves.

They already blew their load last summer with trading a first for JT Miller, signing Myers, Ferland, and Benn... and acquiring Leivo and Pearson last season.

Word on the street is that Benning has been looking for another Top 6 forward to add - Ferland coming back might be that player. I would hate to see GMJB give away more picks this time of year. Baertschi has no value on the market, Stecher might, but personally, I think if there's anyone to shop it should be Stecher or Tanev.

Tryamkin might have been ok on the 2016/17 Canucks but is not good enough to crack the the 2019/20 Canucks lineup.

Hearing that Ferland's hockey career might be over. Seems awfully quiet on that front.

Hmmm... Heard he was supposed to travel east with the team with a conditioning stint in Utica but he was/is still in Vancouver (as of 2/5)... Maybe something there...

Would be horrible if his career is over...

According to Dhaliwal he's skating and expected to do a conditioning stint in Yootika so the reports of his demise appear to be greatly exaggerated.

Now...Vladimir Sobotka, that dude is done.

Utica... If ever there was a place you wanted to get the fuck out of quickly, THAT is a good place to push a player to make the NHL. What a shit hole.
