Dammit, I actually like that move.
Willie Mitchell will be happy about this. They're business partners in a Marina Resort in Tofino.

Tom Wilson signed for 6 years. $5.17 m aav. :wtf:
Orpiks also brought back to the Caps. 1 year, $1 m aav. That makes some sense.

But 6 years for head hunter Wilson? Fuck that.

Some people freaking out about the Orpik trade/re-sign like it's some shifty act of cap circumvention. They had to trade away a potential #1 goalie in order to facilitate the trade in the first place, and, let's face it, Orpik is a stay-at-home defender nearing 40 who was outright terrible according to the metrics. Unless they use him as their 7th guy the Caps actually made themselves WORSE by picking him back up. I really don't see a problem with this.

Anyway, paying Tom Wilson that much money is as bad, if not worse than giving Bryan Bickell big money back in the day. They'll regret that one, what's mind-blowing is the number of people coming out to defend the contract.

Wilson got quite the SC bonus. Good for him.

This Caps team is pretty locked in: top 6 forwards, top 4 D and Holtby under contract till 2020, so two more years to win another. After that only Backstrom and Holtby are UFAs. Maybe Samsonov/Vanecek take over and Backstrom gets only a tiny raise. This team is more or less on auto-pilot till Ovi retires. Just a matter of mixing and matching grinders every year.

Jannick Hansen signs a one-year deal with CSKA Moscow. Thought he might get another shot in the NHL.

Yeah strange. Further proof on the decline of the middle class utility player. Doesn't look like Goldie is going to work in in Vancouver so it's a wash.

Former Sen/Isle Shane Prince is taking his little red corvette and raspberry beret to Switzerland for 2 years.

It should be noted there are no more pending arbitration cases. Ceci's went the distance, and Wild Bill opted to sign before it went to Arby's.

Not much left outside of guys who should consider heading overseas, looking for PTOs, or just hang 'em up.

PTO in Miami for Mark Letestu. Surprised that's the best he could do. Decent plugger who went to a team with quite a bit of centre depth.

Scottie Upshall refuses to Go Gently Into That Good Night, signs a PTO with St. Louis. Probably the end of the road for him.

Toby Enstrom got a few NHL offers, but in the end decided to return to MODO, where he'll be captain.

Played 719 games in his NHL career, all with the Thrashjets.
