Some (likely wrong) predictions on who lands where:

Carlson - WSH (I am a genius)
Tavares - NYI
Stastny - MTL
Rick Nash - CBJ
Hutton - NYI
Perron - MTL
Bozak - VAN
Maroon - MIN
Grabner - BUF
Beagle - MTL
Neal - VGK
Green - VGK
Johnson - DAL

Tavares - NYI
Stastny - COL
Rick Nash - PHI
Hutton - NYI
Perron - ARZ
Bozak - MIN
Maroon - NJ
Grabner - STL
Beagle - MIN
Neal - NSH
Green - DET
Johnson - PIT

I don't know about the Habs, man. They've got money to burn but it might just turn into Pacioretty apology money.

Some new UFAs since they didn't get qualifying offers or got bought out: Xavier Ouellet, Derrick Pouliot, Anthony Duclair, Daniel Carr, Alex Burrows, Korbinian Holzer. Other surprising potential UFAs: Devante Smith-Pelly and Tobias Rieder.

Canucks need help down the middle. Bozak would be a good interim measure 2nd line Center -- and the Canucks have money to burn but little else. They will probably throw the world at him.

Regards Pouliot -- the Nucks have this week to sign him before other teams can speak to him, so they better do that or it would be yet another example of poor asset management.

The Leafs? The Bruins? What is this from Tavares? A courtesy tour? Guess its a good way to get a catered trip. :munch:

I was like 90% sure JT would re-sign with the Isles the other day. Today I'm about to puke.

IMO he's an average 3rd line guy, nothing more. The Canucks have reportedly been talking to Riley Nash who'd be much better in that role anyway.

MHO, you use Horvat and Pettersson as 1-2 and roll the dice. What's the worst that could happen, lottery pick?

Yeah understood but Pettersson isn't a really center yet and needs further grooming at the position. Word is that the Canucks think he will have more puck touches at center, and want him there, hence more scoring options on the NA ice sheet, but he needs some time to adapt to the NHL game -- who knows how long that would take.

Agree though. Throw the kid in, it's sink or swim.

Sounds like the Caps will keep Beagle. Valteri back to DET maybe.

Given how the draft went and the current emphasis on being 3-strong up the middle, I think Bozak and Stastny are about to get PAID. 10 suitors each, at least.

Riley Nash and Derek Ryan will also be grossly overpaid.

Mark Madden in Pittsburgh says Jack Johnson will agree to a 5-year-deal with the Pens July 1. That seems like an awful lot of term.

I read it's $16 mil so that comes out to $3.2 mil AAV. That's not too bad given the current wacko market.

I wonder if that's by design...poor guy still has a bunch of shifty creditors coming after him and is currently living on an "allowance" of $250,000 or something like that. So taking a shorter term/more $$$$ deal wouldn't be advantageous for him.

Pouliot signs with Canucks, interesting trend. Teams don't tender qualifying offers, then try to sign them before free agency to avoid arbitration.

Same with Devante Smith-Pelly, Kevin Connauton, Joe Morrow and Riley Sheahan. I don't remember this happening last year.

Rick Nash reportedly considering retirement. He ended last season with a concussion.

The media are way to busy talking about where Tavares will go. All other UFAs depend on his decision.

Not that I'm paying any attention to the Tavares talk. I've only read about 400 pages worth of "he's going...." or "the longer it takes him to decide, the less likely the Isles are to keep him".... My eyes right now-

There's been talk of him sticking around in Winnipeg, or even coming "home" to Colorado (his wife is from CO and they still live there in the offseason) but either scenario has him taking less-than-market value. No doubt Montreal is throwing everything they can at him, and whichever teams miss out on Tavares will immediately target him. He might just wait out the Johnny T hysteria and court some teams.

I'm really hoping the Avs convince him to come back in a contract that makes sense for both sides, but I don't blame him for taking one last stab at maximizing his value.

One scenario I hadn't considered: JT takes a few days to decide and holds up the entire UFA process.
