Jan Kovar worth a spot on the UFA board? I feel like he was really hyped 2 years ago, but didn't come over from the KHL. Now he's a free agent after a down year. Only 28. Think he might be feeling the Shipachev cooling effect.

I'm noticing a lot of teams are looking at FAs from overseas, if for no other reason than to fill in some depth spots with cheap talent they don't really have to develop.

I haven't heard much about Kovar, his name has popped up but there isn't a huge hype train or anything. It's not just Shippy, there was the Fabian Brunnstrom debacle that some remaining GMs remember, plus the fact that Nikita Zaitsev had a reasonably good year in Toronto, signed a hefty deal, and promptly imploded.

Kovar checks a lot of boxes: RH centre, faceoff expert, PPG in Russia, thickly built.

But i wonder if NHL teams feel his speed and physique aren't necessarily up to par.

Lest we forget Ville Leino!
