Picks going each way too.

Brassard had 27 goals last season, makes 5M AAV.

Zibanejad has one year left on his deal, has two straight 20 goal seasons.

Um...hmmmm...always thought Brassard was one of the Rangers' better gets.

Mika always looks amazing whenever I see him play, dude looks like he's all over the ice, but hasn't quite hit star level yet. Of course he's only 23.

Interesting. Not sure who got the better end of this, gonna have to go to my old Rangers forum and see what they have to say.

The Rangers clear up cap space and add a promising young guy, so I like it from their perspective.

Zibanejad is 23 while Brassard is 28. 3 years left for Brassard with 1 for Mika.

Without looking at the advanced numbers. Brassard could still potentially outpoint Mika for the length of the deal and the last 2 years of his deal are only $3.5M cash. NYR gets the high upside, long term potential move that could end up costing $5M+ if Mika improves this year. Ottawa doesn't have to pay for that and gets some cheaper years than Mika would have likely cost him on his next deal, plus the cash savings.

Good hockey move for Rangers. Cash saving move with lateral at-best hockey implications for Ottawa short-term, worse off long-term?

Apparently the Rangers receive a 2nd rounder too  Didn't Ottawa trade one in in the Phaneuf deal too?

Probably just for this season, though. Mika improves a bit and his next deal becomes more expensive in cap hit than Brassard's $5M.

Looks like Mika generates more chances relative to his team and draws more penalties, but also gives up more on the defensive side relative to his team than Brassard, if I'm reading this right.

Brassard is a damn good player. I'm glad to see him out of the Metro.
