I'm told this 3-way trade Nash-Ariz-Mtl took a few weeks to bring together.

Wow. Great job everyone. :emo:

A 3-way deal in order to pick up a goon and a 27-year-old AHLer? Hardly seems to be worth the effort. Certainly not worth the extra contract.

Probably because of this

Quote:

John Scott was previously asked by both NHL and Arizona Coyotes to bow out of NHL All-Star Game. He refused. Trade likely takes care of that

Was there more behind the scenes than we thought?

John Scott won't play in MTL at all. It's really the Coyotes who insisted to include him in a trade. They didn't want to pay him in the AHL.

Stay classy, Yotes and Habs.

A really cheap move by a supposedly classy organization.

Several teams conspiring to bury a guy? That's a bit over the top. At least the fans still appreciate goonery.

This sucks. Scott may be a useless goon but apparently he is a nice guy, in SJ last year apparently all the players really liked him. He's just a dude trying to make a living.

Not good karma for the habs to participate in this BS.

And isnt it too early and/or stupid to give up on Tinordi wtf? No way a big #7 or 8 defenseman is less valuable than a goon.

Edit: now they say Scott is captain for the west team anyway? I want Tinordi back.

I follow the NHL's Instagram account. Virtually every one of their posts has been inundated with #freejohnscott comments.

Lying sacks of shit.

Quote:
Scott, elected to the Pacific Division captaincy in fan voting while a member of the Arizona Coyotes, was traded Friday to the Montreal Canadiens of the Atlantic Division. The resultant change in division, and Scott’s subsequent assignment to the American Hockey League, created a unique circumstance that required review – the result of which was a determination to maintain the status quo for the All-Star weekend in order to preserve all parties' pre-existing expectations, including Scott’s desire to participate.

I'm not exactly a big Scott fan, but the NHL wanted to get people more involved so they'd watch a meaningless game. It turned on them when people voted for various not-so-good All Stars, this year's being the best example. Glad to see the public pressure force them to put the guy in. People want to see what he'll do, and many wouldn't watch the ASG without him. I still might not bother watching, but I heard he'll get a $90k bonus, which is good for a guy who probably makes a little over league minimum. Means a lot more to him than the guys making over $5 million/year. I hope he scores a bunch.

But of course it raises the question- what skills event do you put him in? Do you invent the "Hardest Punch" skill? Quickest KO?

Marc Bergevin on the Scott deal today: "I made a trade that, at the time, I had to make that trade, so I have some reason I can't really tell you why, but if I could, you could probably understand."

Okee-dokee

Scott should beat the crap out of somebody during the ASG just to really disgrace Bettman!

Clearly it should be the Coyotes representative since they waived & traded him. Oh, wait.

Fuck it, just pummel Bettman. I'll bet if he did, fans would contribute to an AssKickStarter and he'd make more than his normal annual salary.

That's fucking hilarious. Were Tinordi and Maloney holding a gun to his head or his family? No? Ok, own it then. You did not have to make that trade. Explain.

Man. Fuck the NHL, even more than they should have been already. This is fucking disgraceful.

Quote:
If the league thought this was an embarrassment, pretty much all of the players I’ve encountered have thought otherwise. I’ve gotten texts from so many guys saying the same thing: “You should go.”

And that didn’t happen because of the internet. I busted my ass to be one of them. I’ve skated every day since I was three years old to be one of them. I’ve persevered through Juniors roster cuts, Alaskan bus rides, Advanced Dynamics exams, and — yes — fights, to be one of them.

But I’m one of them. And that means a lot to me.

It means a lot to my family.

So when someone from the NHL calls me and says, “Do you think this is something your kids would be proud of?”

… That’s when they lost me.

That was it, right there. That was the moment.

Because, while I may not deserve to be an NHL All-Star, I know I deserve to be the judge of what my kids will — and won’t — be proud of me for.

John Scott called up. The cynic in me says it's because the Habs want to look like the good guy in the John Scott movie that's being made.

What an embarrassing season.

Leaving one of your All Stars out this long was a total tank move on the Habs part.
