Off-ice officials allege they were fired for reporting on-going racist talk by another off-ice official.

Fucking incredibly inept. Fire the people reporting the problem, not the actual problem people.

What does a League have to do before people start calling it racist?

Change in topic from the above, but still some dumb shit from the NHL.

I'm not sure what fan base or city might react well to such a speech, but NYers are a bunch of dicks on the best of days and aren't going to cheer for something like that. Plus if Bettman wanted something like that done, he should have recorded himself doing it. I guess he knows he'd get booed vs the fans and players all just staring at poor Rooney here. Wonder what he did to deserve the "honor" of doing this.

Player safety, whats the point of calling it player safety when Trouba gets a $5k fine for taking a golf swing at Frederic's head? Bieksa and Maclean at least have the guts to call them out on it.

I get that a lot of calls are pretty gray. Its hard to have an exact line that you don't cross. However, an intentional golf swing to the head should be at least an automatic minimum 10 game suspension every time and the option for more. You can see how Trouba brings the stick in an arc from below at hip height, where he could easily have swung at hip or arm but instead intentionally brought it in an upward arc to aim and connect with the head. There is nothing gray or subjective about that play. Its perfectly clear he went way beyond what should be tolerated.

It just seems like how big a star you are, or what organization you play for is too often a factor in these decisions and that should never happen.

That would have at least earned Tkachuk or Doug Weight or even Chris Pronger a game back in the day. How the hell does he not at least get a few games?4

Gotta love the NHL's Random Wheel of Justice.
