Wonder if Shero's in any trouble. I imagine the seat's at least a little warm.

They managed to score 3 goals! Still lost. But they scored 3 goals!

Whoa. Dallas Stars fire head coach Jim Montgomery, citing "unprofessional conduct." Sounds like the incident happened while he was a member of the Stars. #NHLtoo

Thank goodness Matthews did his covered moon before this all began! Apparently its not related to Gary's hotline so who knows. Tis the season for wild Christmas parties! Some serious damage control going on.

Really dumb to come out and say he was fired for "unprofessional conduct" and then do absolutely nothing to explain what that conduct was. Now we're just left to speculate. That does nothing to help the organization, the league, or even Monty himself.

Since they fired him, I don't think they give a shit about helping him. To further speculation, he might have been texting other GMs saying things like "Dallas sucks. Can you get me into a REAL org?" That would be "unprofessional".

Gambling or drug abuse perhaps? That's pure speculation on my part, but it was non-player related, not considered to be sexual misconduct as no charges were laid, no criminal investigation and no personnel were involved (allegedly). Either way why the organization would not help him is beyond me.

There's so much we don't know. I'd think they'd check him into rehab if it was drug related.

Sexual misconduct could mean anything, including having an affair with another employee's wife... That's not illegal but it certainly could lead to the team breaking apart and be seen as unprofessional.

I'm sure the story will leak in a few days. I just hope it's something amusing to the rest of us.

DeBoer gets the axe in San Jose. And just to drive home just how crazy things are...they had to come out and say it was a "hockey decision."

Bob Boughner gets another shot as the interim HC.

Honestly, if I were a head coach in the NHL, I'd throw in a penalty/bonus that gets paid to me in the event I get shitcanned when both goalies post a sub-.900 save percentage.

Well to be fair, DeBoer is one of only 11 active NHL coaches with at least 400 career victories and sustained playoff success. The toolbox was also front end loaded by Dougie Wilson prior to Deboer's arrival. He finishes his Sharks tenure with a combined 198-129-34 record. Not too chablis. He shouldn't be out of work too long.

Oh I'm not feeling bad for ol' Pete, among all the fired coaches thus far, he is easily the most employable (which sure is saying something). Indeed, not too "Chablis."

I just wish coaching tenures didn't correlate so much with goaltending performance. Mind you, the Sharks actually have issues beyond two guys who can't make a save (poor defense, worst penalty differential in the league) but the goaltending is by far the worst, and by all indications, the Sharks are playing like a team that simply doesn't trust their goalies, and who could blame them.

Anyway, it was bound to happen, and I imagine if the Preds don't get it together soon, Laviolette is next.

Shouldn't the Sharks be looking at their goalie coach? 2 guys below .900?

Oh yeah, he was a casualty--Johan "Moose" Hedberg.

Their new goalie coach is a guy you're familiar with: Evgeni Nabokov.

Nabby always heaped praise on his old goalie coach, Warren Strelow, so maybe he learned a few things on how to teach the next generation.

Snajder or someone on Twitter pointed out the dropoff stat-wise Jones has exhibited in recent years. This phrase gets used way too often, but his game really has fallen off a cliff.

Johan Hedberg was their goalie coach? No wonder the goalies sucked. He was horrible when he played for the Canucks.

Agings curves are what they are. Some guys are above it, some guys are on it, and some fall off of it.

I would maintain that goalie coaches who know how to teach the technicalities and emotions of the position is the most important factor for career longevity. I mean look at how Ian Clark turned around Markstrom and Luongo back in the day and what happened when he left Columbus. Johan freaking Hedberg? I mean c'mpn.

I gotta admit, I was kinda surprised when I heard he was a goalie coach. I honestly don't know much about the art of goaltending, but I seem to remember Hedberg as one of those guys who wasn't exactly great at mechanics and what not. I would assume a good goalie coach is a guy who knew about the Xs and Os of the position.

Hedberg played 21 games for Vancouver, going 8-6-2, with a Save % of .900. What's notable is that he posted his career-best GAA with 2.51 then, which is super-weird.

His numbers are actually better than I thought albeit from a different era. But if memory serves, he was super inconsistent and a bit all over the place. Not a big game goalie. Ah well he had a pretty long career as a back up regardless.

I remember Hedberg having like one good year where he made some incredible saves, but they were mainly because he had been out of position.
His NHL career save % was .901, so at least he was better than the guys he was coaching this year.
