Anybody watch/listen to this? I really enjoy this segment.

I enjoy Gord Miller and Steve Simmons.

The odd time when I'm in the car during those hours then I have it on.

Steve Simmons is fucking terrible. He blatantly makes up shit and claims he has sources. He was a total mouthpiece and cheerleader for Tim Hunter.

The normal show with Bryan Hayes, Jamie MacLennan and Jeff O'Neill is pretty entertaining. Noodles is the best.

I'll pay attention to that then. I just started listening about a month ago and I liked the way Gord Miller was just after the other dude (which I guess happens to be Steve Simmons).

I haven't seen the Normal show yet....

If Gord Miller was after him, good.

Simmons is the guy who made up the Kessel hot dog stand garbage, and also game up with this absolute fucking howler.

This was immediately refuted hours or even minutes after publishing when it was revealed that the Jackets initially approached the Leafs.

Quote:
The Maple Leafs front office was meeting the other day, as they do most days, talking about trade possibilities, kicking things around, when a stroke of genius was spoken aloud.

And everyone paused for just a moment to comprehend what was said about the seemingly impossible.

About finding a way to trade David Clarkson.

What about finding a team, it was suggested, that wasn’t up against the salary cap, that had a need to justify all its dollars, that had a player of similar contract being paid for not playing because of injury?

The concept was brilliant: Trade bad contract for bad contract — with a catch. Could they actually pull this off?

Was there such a team with a match?

They began their due diligence at that moment, going team-by-team, payroll-by-payroll, contract-by-contract, trying to find a home and a fit for a player who didn’t fit and couldn’t find a home with the Leafs.

They stopped at the Columbus Blue Jackets. Perfect, they thought. The Jackets had Nathan Horton not playing. His contract wasn’t insured. Money is tight in Columbus.

Then the phone calls began.

“We started discussing this with Columbus in the last couple of days,” said Dave Nonis, the Leafs general manager of the moment — and maybe longer after this heroic deal. “Internally, we knew this made sense for us. It turns out they were interested as well. (Some other teams were interested, but not in the same kind of way.)

I used to find Simmons' Sunday morning Last Word column entertaining 20 years ago when good sportswriting wasn't found easily outside of some local/national papers. I started to notice his stuff was getting worse where he was purposefully misspelling names to try to be funny. He also used to do a "Hey, whatever happened to <someone>?" and did it for Alexander Karpovtsev, three years after he was killed in the Lokomotiv air disaster.

And then there was this with Marc Savard.

Simmons is such a goddamn hack. He makes Kizsla and Paige look like Ryan Clark. If his talking is anything like his writing I likely couldn't take him for more than 20 minutes. That said, Mark Spector is a guy whose writing I don't care much for, but he's an okay interview on NHL Network so who knows. Maybe the other guy keeps him reined in a little.
