Just FYI, these rankings were posted at the beginning of May.

https://hockey-graphs.com/2017/05/03/th ... rd-part-2/

I think Armstrong and Murray are ranked way too high, and Ken Holland way too low. I do agree, however, with the top two rankings.

Also, it's hard to say where the GM ends and the front office begins. I always feel like guys like Bob Murray are continually bailed out by his amazing scouting/talent development staff. But does the GM deserve credit because he hired said staff? Who knows. Also, I'm not sure Doug Armstrong deserves credit for the plum situation he was given. The Blues have taken noticeable steps BACK during his tenure, despite the emergence of Vladimir Tarasenko.

Far as Sakic goes, no, he reportedly did not make the team's worst moves (apparently Patrick Roy negotiated exclusively with Francois Beauchemin's agent all by his lonesome) but he was still the GM of record for those moves and a few others that Roy couldn't have had anything to do with. So I guess, yeah, his ranking is pretty accurate.

Holland right now deserves to be pretty fucking low. Goalies are getting moved, but he hasn't moved one of his. He hasn't gotten any of his bad contracts off the books, and the extensions he handed out in the past 16 months are fucking horrible.

David Poile is possibly the league’s most underrated GM.
Yet he's rated #1.

I still think Jim Nill is overrated - living off the crest of the Wings for years. It's win now time for the Stars - gotta think his job is on the line should they miss the playoffs again or fizzle in round 1.

Benning is also rated too high. Surely there are superior AHL GMs out there. Although to echo AV'ssentiments, it's hard to know how many hands are in the cookie jar. To be fair, the Aquilini's are as dysfunctional an ownership group as they come.
