I think the bigger question is whether or not the current system (salary cap, points) is actually creating parity or merely the illusion of it. No doubt the Avs are an absolutely TERRIBLE team, yet I keep hearing Joe Sakic and others saying they're only X amount of games below .500. Well, sorry, but that's just sugarcoating. They're a bad team, and so are a lot of others, yet so many are able to hang on thanks to things like loser points. Might be high time to change to a three-point system, which I can't stand but if we're just not bringing back ties then that's the only other solution.
I'll admit though that right now the top teams (except for SJ) sure look like a big smoke show. Chicago to me seems like the only club that can somehow find a way to keep those unsustainable numbers going, Toews and Kane and Keith are just that friggin' good.
Amazingly, Toews Kane and Panek together is one of the worst 5-5rel possession lines in the league. Detroit has one of them in the OttMillerGlendening line.
The worst? Vanek, Nyquist and Larkin.
