The first GM of the Las Vegas expansion team will be George McPhee.

Good to go with experience the first time around, like with Poile.

Who here has the power to create a new Las Vegas team page?

I figured that it would be McPhee or Maloney.

I was hoping Milbury, so they'd help the rest of the league.

Can't remember where I read it, but the team will likely get a name next week.

The Las Vegas Golden Knights it is.

Black and Gold jerseys, naturally.

Wait, they're just called the "Vegas Golden Knights"?!

That's dumb.

Hear hear.
I wanted them to be the Black Knights so we could make "None shall pass" jokes when their D played well. Golden Knights? Dumb. And VGK sounds like an STD. "Went to Vegas & got VGK."

I suppose "Golden Knights" sounds better than "Silver Knights" even though silver would've made more sense for a Nevada-based team.

I'm assuming they just went with "Vegas" because they wanted the V to be the only letter incorporated into the logo. But really, even if it was just "Las Vegas" it's not like they would've been required to shoehorn an "L."

What's going to be annoying is that their acronym should be "LV" on the scoreboard but they might try shortening it to "VEG".

Apparently the US Military kiboshed the Black Knights as they own that trademark and the London Knights quashed the Knights.

Nobody local to the greater Las Vegas area calls it 'Las Vegas' - apparently they just call it Vegas.

It's funny, I was just reading a post in the new Las Vegas HF forum and here's what one of the mods had to say:

BattleBorn on HF wrote:
When people move to Vegas they think it's cool that they live in Vegas. Once they realize "Vegas" is usually shouted by some drunk bachelorette in a straw hat drinking a mojito out of a three foot tall guitar shaped container and almost immediately followed by "baby" and the vocal equivalent of five exclamation points they usually convert to preferring "Las Vegas" as the way in which they refer to their hometown to "outsiders."

Foley and the crew of new Las Vegans in the organization haven't made the conversion yet, and apparently didn't care enough to ask anyone that's lived here longer than two years.

It's a huge disappointment for me, and I try not to exaggerate things.

I don't mind "Las Vegas Golden Knights" but the "Vegas" just makes me think it's some cheap lounge act.

I suppose a return trip to Sin City might be in order. Don't have any idea when that'll be though.

I'm reading any names that had anything to do with gambling were outright rejected by the league, so the name a lot of fans wanted "Las Vegas Aces" was killed before it had a chance. Frankly I think pro sports' outright paranoia when it comes to associations with gambling is about the most ridiculous thing ever, especially since the NHL actively partners with and promotes both Draft Kings and FanDuel, which, hate to break it to ya, are gambling websites.

Looking forward to the jerseys, given they went pretty minimal for both logos I'll be pretty disappointed if the uniforms are garish and overdone.

The whole thing smells like a cheap lounge act - just like last night's logo unveiling.

But I have to admit that I would go to see LAS Vegas to watch the Canucks or the Kings play. Would be quite a spectacle - or at least a total gong show.

I just feel bad for the poor tech guys who you absolutely know got bitched out big-time afterwards. Bettman was visibly annoyed last night. Foley said to the crowd he got interviewed for five hours for that segment, so you KNOW he was pissed.

DAMMIT...I think they made DGB delete his tweet from last night. He said something like "Good to see the people behind the NHL.com redesign found a new project."
