It's been posted elsewhere but I figured it might be easier to find if I put it here in its own thread.

I really hope Matt effing Hendricks didn't actually play a part in the decision-making process.

Chiarelli and Bergevin do not come across well in this. Like they backed themselves into corners and had to act.

Matt Hendricks is 35 years old and was at the time about to go into the final year of his deal. Why the fuck would he risk any kind of injury to fight Brandon Bollig? Oilers organizational pride? The Oilers have a long, stupid and awful history of guys getting injured in fights over the past 10 years. Nobody on that fucking team should be fighting at this point.

In Ken Dryden's book, he theorized that the Flyers will have difficulty winning another Cup. They were used to winning a certain way (Broad Street Bullies) that was eventually outlawed, but the team and the fans continue to pine for the good old days and in trying to replicate those old winning teams, they've screwed themselves in the present.

I'm starting to think the reason why Canadian teams are struggling right now is because they're trying to build teams "The Canadian Way" with grit and and an excess of pluggers, but the league has evolved.

Oh there are teams in the US still stuck handing out stupid long-term contracts to grit and grinders :chris18: :chairshot:
