Half a billi buy-in. That's a lot.

My rankings:

1. Las Vegas
2. Seattle
3. Quebec City
4. Kansas City
5. Toronto/Hamilton
6. Portland
7. Houston
8. Atlanta
9. Virginia Beach/Newport News/Norfolk
10. Hartford (I wish)

By the way, Quebecor already sent out a press release saying they're ready to play ball with Bettman: http://www.quebecor.com/en/comm/nhl-fra ... ed-process

Nice. Would love to see a team back in Quebec. Also Seattle.

Houston might work too. Heard Alex Auld singing the praises of that market today on TSN Radio - guess he played there in the A and said the facility is great.

More teams, more shitty players!

Let's water down the league and get more goals scored!

You forgot Milwaukee. New rink going up there, hockey market (top AHL club, NCAA in state), Western Conference, apparently there's been some tire kicking in recent years.

While it is true there's an arena being built, I don't think Milwaukee is big enough for the two winter sports.

Houston makes a lot of sense and could form a nice rivalry with Dallas, but I guess it would be up to Les Alexander, who once tried to poach the Oilers and has exclusivity on the Toyota Center. The Aeros got turfed because the arena jacked up the rent. (They were actually getting 7000 per game.)

Les was mad for a while about how the Oiler thing went down, but now he might simply not have enough money on his own to do it. He apparently lost much of his wealth in 2008.

Likely rule KC out this go around: http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity/b ... ml?ana=twt

Definitely in their long term aspirations, though.

Not so fast. Bucks owners want 250M public money to build the arena or else...

The league is expecting competing bids from Seattle: http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/nhl-l ... m-seattle/

Quote:
In short, Coleman has no interest in an NBA franchise and wants only to be involved in the NHL, while Hansen, who seems to hold the cards in this scenario, is at the opposite end of the spectrum.

Well there you have it- both new teams will be in Seattle!

Seattle Times: Give up the NBA dream and embrace the NHL reality

http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/nba/ ... ly-option/

I hope this happens. It's crazy Seattle doesn't have a modern arena. It's one of the richest metro areas in the US.

The way I see it, Vegas is in. Seattle and Quebec duke it out for the other spot and the loser gets Phoenix/Florida.

I still think the NHL will be willing to go to 33 teams. But this is a 2 team expansion for the 100th season. Seattle is looking at 2018.

2017 would be a really cool starting year for a new Seattle team though.

They haven't even cleared the area for either arena yet, so I'm not completely convinced they'll have the thing ready for Sept/Oct 2017

Yeah it's too bad. It would have been a neat nod to Seattle's hockey history if it could happen.

Not entirely true, the suburban Tukwila bid might go ahead. The downtown one won't.
