Fun note- this team could easily wind up with a former #1 overall from the Oilers, who won't be able to protect them all soon.

Beautiful, Chris.

Chris, the one from each team means that a team may only have one selected from them, not that the expansion clubs get to select one from each.

Some details from Friedman. Entry-level contracts are exempt from the limits.

Quote:
The choice is three defencemen and seven forwards OR eight skaters of any makeup. One expansion team means you can only lose one player. Two means two players. Anyone with fewer than three years of professional experience is exempt. You don’t have to worry about losing them.

Man, if NMCs have to be protected that's gonna lead to all kinds of chaos. That means Toronto would have to protect Nathan Horton, the Coyotes would have to protect Pronger, etc.

Then you have to start looking at if buyout is a feasible option. Would the surplus value of the guy you keep instead of the JFJ you buy out, outweigh the cost of the buyout?

Well, the problem there is that neither Horton nor Pronger can be bought out since both are still injured. Same goes for Savard, though I've no idea if he has a full NMC.

Geez, both Pronger and Savard's respective deals expire in 2017. If expansion took place just ONE YEAR later, this wouldn't be so much of an issue.

Heard the PA have agreed to not block expansion. Why would they? It means like 40-50 more members.

Supposedly NTCs don't have to be protected, but NMCs will. That's odd.

Does that mean GM's will sign a bunch of their RFA's to NMC's so they don't have to use a spot protecting them?

I thought the NMC player still counted as a protected player, the teams just don't have a choice in the matter. It's ELCs that are exempt.

Give the Vegas team Terry Yake, Bob Corkum and Scott Pellerin.

They'll be fine.

No- NMCs HAVE to be protected. NTCs don't. At least that's how I understood it.

We might see some NMC buyouts or even a negotiated buyout window. Just how valuable is that 11th/9th player to a team?

Depends on the depth I guess.

Do we know for sure it's Vegas? And where is the other team? Both in the western conference, or is someone moving from the east to the west? Or will it be 17 Eastern teams and 15 Western? That would be stupid, which is why I think it'll happen.

I suspect at this point it'll only be Vegas.

I think Quebec is a longshot. They'll wait for Seattle to get its act together, arena-wise.

Seattle city council vote on getting rid of a street for the new arena does not pass. Chris Hansen's arena deal, years in the making, might never come to fruition.

We're going to get an expansion decision on June 22. What that decision is we don't quite know yet.

Vegas - done via expansion.

The more intriguing question - will the Canes be moved to Quebec?

http://www.rds.ca/hockey/lnh/las-vegas- ... -1.3399848

RDS says the Las Vegas Black Knights will play in the Pacific Division starting in 2017-18. No surprise there.

Quebec will be used as a moving threat for franchises unable to get their houses in order (Phoenix, Raleigh).

Said it before. The name should just be Vegas Knights. That would be perfect. But apparently there is some significance to the Black part.
