If Bettman seriously goes along with this (and even I don't believe he's that dumb) just move this franchise to Hamilton and be done with it, because if you admit they can't handle 41 games in the Glendale arena (and Phoenix market), then they can't support a NHL team.

Even though this idea is insane, I like the attention my hometown is getting as a result. It's the dead season for NHL news, so this seems to be the #1 hockey story going right now. :wookie:

Saskatoon Coyotes actually works fairly well. The Saskatoon Islanders are kind of whacky.

Saskatoon Predators? Thrashers? Penguins?

This obviously won't happen. The transient hometeam is a horrible idea that completely contradicts how a team should logically grow and attract fans and revenue. This isn't the fucking Globetrotters - sports franchises need to develop cultural ties to their base of operations. Spending a few weeks two timezones over doesn't help anyone.

You've got a complete oxymoron there EL. This is the NHL we're talking about here. Given that we feel something wouldn't work for obvious, logical reasons, surely doesn't mean that the NHL won't try it.

MLB and the NFL have done it before, so it's not like the NHL would be alone in thinking this would work.

The Bills experiment isn't working. The games at Skydome were undersold and money dealing upper crust Torontonians had no interest in seeing some team from Podunk Western NY. Regular football loving folk preferred paying less money to drive down to the Ralph and get arrested there.

The San Juan Expos proved a MLB could never work in Puerto Rico (at the time it was considered a potential expansion location), and it was really just a short-term answer for a team that clearly had no future in Montreal.

The Expos were hopeless and the Bills will exist as long as Ralph is alive and not much longer. In theory, the NHL believes hockey can work in Phoenix, and therefore would have nothing to gain by pulling them out for a few games in places that could never sustain a big-league franchise.

Sorry, to be clear my comment was more of a general statement of the NHL doing things that make little to no logical sense than on this specific idea.

I fully support this fine idea. Only, however, if Bettman fly's the Coyotes from home game to home game in the Spruce Goose.

edit: I'm too lazy to photoshop the NHL logo onto the tail.

Bettman obviously wouldn't agree to Saskatoon, but I could see something like it happening with Las Vegas one day, where he clearly wants to put a team.

That's only because the ticket prices were so ridiculously high. If the Bills weren't gouging to the extent they were, they could have filled the stadium (but made less profit).

How badly did the Celtics fare when the used to play games in Hartford? Or the Bullets in Baltimore (when they were already in Washington, that is)?
