Yeah, there’s a forum now!
Until there is hockey to be played, some potential topics include: the brutality of I-5 traffic, shipping fresh salmon from Pike Place market, how the Sounders get such good crowds, if you prefer Northgate or Southcenter malls, and your favorite Capitol Hill restaurant.

Re: John Tavares retires
I played a bit of lacrosse in high school (it is really fun)... I knew of this John Tavares way before the hockey version and was really confused when the younger one's name started surfacing. (See also: Anne Hathaway).

Re: Official Trevor Linden/Jim Benning Era Thread
Fuck Jim Benning with a tetanus-laced cheese grater. The guy is destroying the future, let alone the present. This has to be some sort of long con revenge for how the team dumped him in 1989. Almost everything he has done has been mind-numbingly awful.

Re: NHL takes out ad in the Globe and Mail to honour Belivea
I'm not sure how that works if the owners aren't the same, since Quebec's previous ownership was paying him $20,000 a year already. Montreal signed him for $21k per year, and I think in Quebec Beliveau got things like a new car and such.

Re: Brodeur to Blues, Bryzgalov back to Ducks
No disrespect meant to Brodeur, but given the very high goalie glut in the league right now, I'm kind of surprised by this. Although I suppose the upside is that they don't have to give anything up.

Re: DAL trades Brenden Dillon to SJ for Jason Demers
In normal English use, "holding out" usually does just neutrally mean waiting for something that you think might happen ("Holding out hope for a rescue", etc.), so in the most literal terms an unsigned RFA rejecting a team's offer is "holding out" for a better offer. But from its beginnings the term ...

Re: OFFICIAL SHANABA-, er, BURKIEBAN THREAD
Two seconds is insane. That basically means a player passes, takes a couple of strides, then you only begin to think about hitting him.
And I am all for instant tar-and-feathering of anyone who uses the term "admiring his pass" to justify a late hit. Find me NHL players who don't look up at players ...

Re: Utica Comets and some 6'6" wall in net
By all reports from Uticans, he's been very good, but the Comets are also good now, so he hasn't been having the world's toughest time of it. They say Eriksson has looked extremely good too, though obviously his numbers won't be as gaudy.

Relatedly, in March I'm going to head down to Utica with a Hab-fan friend to see the Comets and Bulldogs battle it out in the renovated Memorial Aud. I'm actually more psyched for this than seeing the Canucks here in December.
