Do you really think Shanahan will have the balls to suspend the Preds captain and best player one game into the playoffs? He'll get a slap on the wrist and a stern warning if he gets anything.

If Shanahan doesn't have the balls to do this, then the entire exercise of hiring one of hockey's toughest players to do this job was a complete waste of time.

Oh I agree, in fact I think it's an important benchmark for the playoffs - if Weber gets a multi-game suspension, it sends a clear message to all the teams that this will not stand. If he gets a game or less, then I think the message is, it's fine as long as no one gets hurt (stupid IMO). All subsequent majors will be compared to this call.

It'll be interesting to compare against Bitz's suspension for sure.

I wasn't even sure what happened at the end when Z was down, I thought it looked like he got punched but that was pretty fucking stupid.

Wings had a bunch of chances while they were down 2-1 but couldn't bury. Datsyuk fed a ridiculous saucer pass to Zetterberg and Rinne made an amazing save on it. Abbadabbaddo took the puck to the net and it went in the air right near the line, but no luck. Datsyuk had a few good chances but they were a little too far out to put them by Rinne. Then Nashville managed to get another. Wings got a late one but it wasn't enough. I only saw the end of the 1st and the 3rd of this one. Get em next game, boys.

Weber gets away with only the $2500 fine. Yay, NHL.

Helm is out for the rest of the playoffs, with lacerated tendons in his forearm:

Well, that sucks.

Agreed. Shanahan's role has been gradually marginalized by the owners. I'm a little surprised that the NHLPA doesn't step in to protect its members. It would have been fine to suspend Weber for at least one game.

What the hell are you all grumbling about? This?

Even the title of this video is overly dramatic. Zetterberg dives like a lily when he should be manning up on Weber for his indiscretion. If this affected Zetterberg in any manner outside of his pride then there are much larger concerns here like Helmet and Visor improvement.

Fine the guy for stupid behaviour and move on. Oh wait......they did that!

The irony of people hollering about Shanahan's emasculation......

From what I understand, just moments before this, Weber had been slashed behind the knees (below the padded shorts and just above the pads) where it can be very painful. Now, it doesn't excuse the retaliation but it does explain why he snapped.

Compare this to the hit by Bitz on Clifford and at least that one can be explained as a hockey play executed with poor judgment. Bitz deserved to be suspended but IMO, no less than Weber did for this non-hockey 'play'.

I also hear that Bettman was at this game, was he not?

Ironically the Pens/Flyers series was expected to get chippy...so far it's this one that's been bloodier.

Wings down 2-1 in the series now.

I was telling Anam about something that drives me crazy. I know the Wings can't score on every first PP of the game, but it seems like the past few years in the playoffs, here is was happens. They don't score on their first bunch of PPs. End up getting down by a couple of goals. Finally get a PP goal, but by that time it's too late. Bury in the fucking PP early.

Same thing happened yesterday. Nashville needed to and did come out absolutely flying. Deet took a penalty, proceeded to give up a PP goal and was down for the rest of the game. They nearly got one in before the buzzer went at the end of the 2nd period, but it didn't get in the net in time. Then they gave up the next goal and finally got a PP goal with less than a minute left in the third. Too late.

The Wings had some good chances and pucks and rebounds were lying around the crease often, but the Wings were never close enough to those pucks.

This is what happened yesterday as well. Wings had 2 full PP's, 2 partials and then didn't manage a goal until their 3rd full PP after they were already down a goal.

Nashville goal got waved off. I think the puck was in the net before the whistle went but the ref decided play was dead before it was in the net. Bourque got a lucky bounce right to him left wide open. The fucking Erat play was terrible. 3 Wings go chasing him into the corner while Klein walks in all alone.

Went last night. Nashville earned the victory fair and square. They are the better team this year. Weber is huge. We sat in the front row. A guy who used our row 2 seats caught a puck in the head in the 2nd period and picked up 20 stitches. (5 stitches for Lefty Wilson fans) Give the guy credit, he returned to the game in the 3rd period after getting patched up. That's a hockey fan. Pictures of me and Dwight, my main partner in crime, at the game...

I'm partially obscurred by the glass stantion in this shot.
Image

Dwight was not happy with the early Bertuzzi elbowing call. It was a shit call. The guy who got hit by the puck is to the far right behind the stantion in a red zip up coat.

Nice fuckin' seats, Skip! How did he manage to get hit with the puck that close to the glass?

if this is the play I'm thinking of, Lidstrom looked reeeaaaalllllyyyy bad on that play ... so bad, I was thinking "WTF is he doing"
I can't recall ever in my life thinking that about him
I thought he was still playing at a high level this year - is he hurt?

That was a group effort on that one. He was going for Erat and had a Wing forward with him. White dropped over to the left side to cover one guy, then changed his mind and follow him over, resulting in 3 Wings on that side and leaving the trailers wide fucking open. Lidstrom and the forward I can understand because White shifted to the left but why White decided to go back I don't understand.

He's still playing at a high level, but he's turning 42 now. He's not what he used to be, but he's still great while making some mistakes.

Great seats, Skip! It would have been nice if they had won for you though :x
