Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 16-years-old and can mash like his old man. He'd look in an Expos 2.0 uniform.

My god! The earth is round!

http://www.sbnation.com/mlb/2014/11/5/7 ... biogenesis

Quote:
But in a Drug Enforcement Administration conference room back in January, facing federal agents and prosecutors who granted him immunity, baseball's highest-paid player admitted everything:

Yes, he bought performance-enhancing drugs from Biogenesis of America, paying roughly $12,000 a month to Anthony Bosch, the fake doctor who owned the clinic. Yes, Bosch gave him pre-filled syringes for hormone injections into the ballplayer's stomach, and even drew blood from him in the men's room of a South Beach nightclub. And yes, the ballplayer's cousin, Yuri Sucart, was his steroid go-fer.

After he said to judge him from his actions post-2009 steroid admission. Okay A-roid, you're a loser/cheater. Now retire.

Jays pick up Russel Martin and hopefully solidify the catcher position for the next 5 years. Great story from Friedman:

Quote:
30. During CBC’s coverage of the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, I was heading into the crowd at Montreal’s Bell Centre to interview then-Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin. I was so focused on that, I walked into a hilarious exchange. Someone saw a microphone-holding reporter and asked, “Who are you going to talk to?” “The Prime Minister,” I replied. “Are you a baseball fan?” he asked. (Absolutely.) “Well, Dodgers catcher Russell Martin is here and you should interview him.” “I’d love to,” I said. “Where is he?” Of course, the guy talking to me was Russell Martin. Shouldn’t have too much trouble recognizing him the next five years.

Apparently baseball is getting concerned about the growing "Tommy John" epidemic.

I wish the Yankees never let him go. :(

Long-term contracts for catchers are always a risky venture, especially these days.

Seems hard to believe. I have a feeling he is going to be a massive bust there.

I think he'll be okay for a few years and eventually replace Ortiz at DH. He's never been a power hitter, and although his weight will fluctuate, he can be a little hefty and still be athletic.

I'm totally gutted. No more Panda.

The Giants haven't had too much continuity over their championship runs, but he was a huge part of the last two. He just seemed like the quintessential Giant - a laid-back character for a laid-back market.

That's part of why I think he'll be a bust. He has his slumps and the stadium in SF is still full of love and panda costumes. He's in for a rude awakening in Boston, and I bet it affects his play.

He will be missed in SF. Goddammit I hate the (@*#^$(@# Red Sox.

The Giants are pure class, though: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-bas ... -be-missed

Quote:
Pablo Sandoval has been a key member of the Giants since breaking into the Majors with us in 2008. He has been with us through some of the greatest moments in San Francisco Giants history - including all three World Series Championships. We will never forget his World Series MVP performance in 2012 and his numerous contributions to the 2014 Championship. His connection with Giants fans - young and old - is truly special and he will be greatly missed. We wish him nothing but the best in Boston.

We are extremely proud of what our team accomplished in 2014 and we look forward to continuing to invest in and strengthen our team for next season.

Ugh, the Giants are running out of third base options in the post-Panda world.

Chase Headley's back won't hold up much longer, so I don't think the Giants will regret not giving him four years. But Callapso and Lowrie are gone too, so there really are no more third base free agents. Asdrubal doesn't want to move, and I hate the idea of signing a second baseman and moving Panik to the hot corner.

I thought they might go after Middlebrooks from Boston, but he's been traded to San Diego.

Some guys left via trade: McGehee, Chris Johnson, Valbuena, Gillapsie, Solarte, Prado, Murphy, Valencia.

There's also the Korean SS Kang, but he's a mess defensively and sounds like a potential bust with only a bit of power as upside.

Internally, Matt Duffy is a decent hitter and is blocked at SS by Crawford, but he has no power. Not really sure the Giants could afford to have Panik, Blanco and Duffy in the lineup providing a combined 10 homers as starters. Same with Adrianza. Duvall is a journeyman who can't play defence, but he has power.

Posey can't play 3B. That's a pipe dream related to his college days. He can barely play 1B in the pros.

I think the Giants will add a LF, possibly a reclamation project like Allan Craig, to make up for Panda's bat, then find a good glove/decent hitter to plug at 3B.

The Giants can usually be counted on for solid pitching and defence, but the lack of power in the projected lineup is worrisome. The Giants have won in years where they got more power than expected.

Posey, Belt and Pence are 20 HR guys. Belt's career high is 17, but he's only turning 27 and there's more power to be tapped there. If he can approach 30, that would be huge.

You hope for a dozen from Crawford. New 3B McGehee hit 4 (!) last year, but historically has hit for more power. Four seems impossibly low. Based on his build/swing, you'd think he could at least hit 10 by accident.

Panik and Pagan might hit five apiece.

Aoki hit one last year (!). Blanco hit 5 and could hit a few more if he gets more playing time lower in the order.

In conclusion, not good. They lost 32 HR's with Panda/Morse leaving.
