If Gio's ready to head home and finish his career without another chance at winning than good on him, he had a good run here.

The D question will be the first priority tomorrow I'd wager but who knows.

Who's the new Captain?

Or should someone give Markov a "G" to wear on his sweater.

Fuck captains.

We're the Habs.

We get a general.

No captain, maybe?

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Gallagher
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Parenteau
Bourque-Eller-Sekac
Bournival-Malhotra-Weise

Moen, Prust

Markov-Subban
Emelin-Gilbert
Beaulieu-Tinordi

Weaver

Hm. Still room to make moves. Will they find a home for Moen? He can still useful to a mid-range team.

Bergevin says there's still an open slot on the RW, and if they don't find anyone, he's content to let Sekac, JDLR and Andrighetto fight over it.

Bergevin's big theme today was about getting younger, even if it meant losing our captain and an assistant.

He also said a big reason for ostensibly swapping Gorges for Gilbert was to open the left side for the young guys.

Gilbert won't do much in our own end, certainly not like Gorges, but he's another guy who'll be able to move the puck up quickly. We'll stretch pass the opposition to death.

Bringing Weaver back was an unexpected surprise. The contract is nice, and he's not really blocking anyone. Tinordi will get his reps, even if he's the number seven guy.

When you see to what lengths Bergevin went to open a spot for a young D, I'd imagine he's trying the same to open a spot at C for Galchenyuk

And, considering what Bergevin said about handing #Habs leadership over to young vets, that C spot he opens could very well be Plekanec's

Just speculating, but that's why it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Plekanec were traded this summer.

Bergy's not messing around.

Lots of talk about the Habs being in on Vrbata.

Also suggested that signing Vrbata could make them temporarily susceptible to a Subban offer sheet.

No Vrbata.

Not a lot left out there, I like Winnik and Moss to play on a 3rd line but I'm okay with giving the kids a shot at that spot, too. Frankly, if Winnik or Moss were brought it could just be done to replace Bourque.

Let's get the show on the road. Sky's the limit with the kids at the helm.

Get PK signed and let's go go go

Eller and Bergevin might be headed to Arby's on Friday.

Habs lowballed him at 1.65M. Eller is dreaming at 3.1M

Kreider got ~2.5M, but that's after coming off his entry-level deal. Eller's already two deals in.

How much will the playoffs factor into the decision? Man, he was good. He was shit during the regular season, though.

No Arby's for Eller: 4 years/14M. The Desharnais Deal, as they call it round Hab HQ.

I guess they're buying into his playoff performance.

Also, his 2013 performance.

Dude had two G's taken away from him and all of a sudden had no one to pass to. As soon as he got a different G he could pass to someone again and all of a sudden they were scoring.

PAP will look nice with him and Rene I think. Or if Bergevin goes all in and gets Patrick Sharp, with PAP and Bournival.

Just give him someone to pass to. We all know Bourque can't handle the puck and can only beat guys out wide, which isn't very useful until the final 60 feet or so of the rink.

Sure, he's undoubtedly better than a 30 point guy, and the line demotion yo-yo hurt his consistency, but what is his offensive upside? We still don't know.

If he puts up 45 points and is our best two-way centre, I think we'd all be pretty happy.

45 points sounds about right if he got even a sniff of the PP.

This is over DD's entire productive stint in the NHL. That's Eller getting the kind of linemates DD gets at ES.

We'll see just how much cap space the Habs will have when PK re-ups, but the Canadiens are very well positioned to add a significant piece, I'd wager.

Travis Moen is currently looking at being a regular in the press box so if they can find a taker for his final two years while finding another RW for the top 9 that'd be perfect. Moen has no more NTC restrictions according to CapGeek, they all ended last year.

The Habs have the following UFAs for next year: Budaj, Weaver.

So this is a team that is pretty set, but they'll have to find takers for these other contracts (Moen, Bourque, Prust stand out) if they want to add a guy signed beyond this offseason and go for it with this group. Galchenyuk and Gallagher will get bridge deals next summer, probably combining for $6m between them.

If the Habs don't want to add a big contract signed beyond this year, then they'll be in play for any big name trade deadline rental again while hoping a combination of Bournival, Sekac or Andrighetto can step up. Then any trade of those bottom sixers is really just about making room for Hamilton, which finally seems to have a complete team (although they likely lose their big D this year in Beaulieu/Tinordi).

It won't reach arbitration.

Habs snagged Dan Lacroix from NYR to replace Gallant as the top assistant. Lacroix was a Boucher guy, was in Hamilton with Boucher, and in Tampa until Boucher was fired. More importantly, though, Dan Lacroix was the guy Therrien famously kicked out of the Habs' gameday practice in the ECF!

Other moves: Rob Ramage replaces Brisebois as a development coach, Timmins gets a promotion (Senior VP of Player Personnel/Dev) but basically keeps the same job (he gets more money so he doesn't get poached), Scott Mellanby moves up to Assistant GM and Dudley becomes a Senior Vice President, no longer an Assistant GM.

Lacroix is definitely the big move here, he has good chops and they poached him out of NYR, which is nice.
