Hmm...I thought it got derailed somewhat by him breaking his legs or knees or something in a car accident. He did play 3 nearly-full AHL seasons but then started to run into a variety of injury issues.

That was Grigorenko's injury.

Yup, I know that happened with Grigorenko and he had a crazy infection that was life-threatening, but for some reason I thought Wallin had a car accident too. It may have just been a busted-up knee.

I don't remember a knee problem but I do remember the concussion issues. It's not all clear to me anymore but I do know that he did not suffer double broken legs. Long time ago anyway...and now he's a coach.

Brendan Smith, he of lots of law incidents at Wisconsin, has left school and signed a three-year entry level deal with the Wings.

Ikari Filppula scored twice the other night to lead the Grand Rapids Mervs over the Marlies.

I take it that's Voltron's brother?

Bosc, very disappointed I have not seen a Tomas Tatar HYPE/WOOD thread.

Actually if you do end up doing it you should call it a "Buildup" thread. :eng101:

Quote:
Cory Emmerton scored his first NHL goal on Saturday. When the Red Wings were acquiring Todd Bertuzzi from Florida, the Panthers initially asked for Emmerton. But Detroit wanted to keep him, so Shawn Matthias went instead.

Matthias may yet be a worthwhile player, but no doubt in my mind he would be already had he stayed in the Wings system. While not everything they touch turns to gold, it's been mentioned before the Wings know how to draft AND develop talent, whereas Florida can't do either.

Haha he's a midseason callup, a young guy with some very good potential, but not really worthy of a wood thread yet(hopefully he will at some point of course). :)

So when can kids start getting 'Tater jerseys?

Also very interested to see Landon Ferrarro if/when he makes it to the Big Show.

I'm pretty sure Ferraro is never making it. He never really came close to a point per game in any season in junior and he's only scoring one point every three games in the AHL. I saw a report recently that showed he was the worst scoring forward of all top two round picks in the past few years. Couple that with the fact that Detroit has plenty of good young forward prospects, Ferraro's a very longshot to make it.

Interesting...I was curious about him because he's Chicken Parm's son and back in the '09 draft the Avs were scared to death the Wings were going to take Ryan O'Reilly. When they took Ferraro, they pounced. I shudder to think how bad the Avs would be right now if they didn't have that kid in their lineup.

Apologies in advance if I have related this story several times before.

If you had, it was in the Avs forum and had nothing to do with Stefan Elliott, so I didn't pay any attention to it. :P

Yeah, Ferraro got hurt in junior, traded and then never again seemed to find his game again. Hopefully he can recover like Cory Emmerton did(though Emmerton showed much more consistency) to become a useful player, but ask Sask says Detroit does have a bunch of offensive prospects in Tatar, Nyqvist, Pulkkinen, Jarnkrok, Jurco and Sheahan finding his offensive game as well, so Ferraro may have a hard time finding a scoring role. He's supposed to have the all-around game that he could be a 3rd/4th liner with some offensive skill. We'll see, but he won't be in Deet anytime soon.

Prospect Riley Sheah arrested for being "super-drunk" in a Teletubby costume.

http://www.mlive.com/griffins/index.ssf ... sheah.html

Holy shit...he registered a .30 BAC!?!? Guarantee you this doofus is an raging alcoholic. Anyone with normal or even excellent tolerance would be headed to the hospital with blood alcohol levels that high. Most anyone here would be in very bad shape anywhere near .20 or above.

What's even more awesome is he tried to pull a Peter Worrell with Brendan Smith's license.

Frigging hell, this is brutal. Thankfully it doesn't sound like anyone was hurt.
